Laser Structuring System for PCB Prototyping Available

WILSONVILLE, Ore. — LPKF Laser & Electronics announces the ProtoLaser 100, a high-performance laser structuring system for PCB prototyping. It is ideal for producing high-quality RF and microwave boards on a variety of materials, from FR4 to PTFE-based substrates, as well as for structuring, cutting and drilling.
Its new laser-beam technology isolates the circuits from the copper layer, removing non-contacting copper between them. A board can be structured at speeds up to 1 sq. in. per min, producing circuit paths as small as 50 µm. The 25-µm laser beam delivers sharp artwork definition, particularly in corners. Plotter milling tools change automatically, enabling unattended operation. Both the laser head and the plotter milling head use an optical fiducial recognition system to ensure precise alignment of the laser-structured area on the PCB with the mechanically milled area.
ProtoLaser 100 is completely self-contained, requiring no chemicals or external chilling systems. An integrated dust extraction system removes all laser and milling-generated debris, making the system safe to operate. Included LPKF CAM software automatically manages all tool parameters, as well as the interaction between laser and mechanical machining.
