ECA Monthly Order Index Bounces Again in November
December 8, 2004 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
Arlington, Va. — The monthly order index compiled by the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA) took another monthly bounce in November, this time dipping after a rise in October. The index's 12-month moving average has come down a bit over the last three months, but is still several percentage points ahead of this time last year.
"Order activity has slowed down over the last few months, but overall, 2004 has been a positive year," says Bob Willis, ECA president. "Manufacturers and analysts see the slight downturn as a typical end-of-year phase, and not necessarily indicative of any pattern going into 2005."
Willis also says that while unit growth for commodity products continues, lower prices are affecting the profitability for this segment. Both unit sales and profitability remain strong for specialized, technology-driven product lines.
