Ion Publishes Paper on Getting Accurate Measurement Picture for AC Ionizers

Berkeley, Calif.—Ion Systems Inc. announces that it has published the newest addition to its line of Technology Solution technical papers, titled "Getting the Full Picture from Your Charge Plate Monitor." The paper describes the limitations of measuring AC ionizers with only a charge plate monitor (CPM), and recommends how to see previously invisible maximum offset voltages produced by AC ionizers.
Authored by Ion's chief scientist, Lawrence Levit, Ph.D., the paper describes how CPMs were adequate for measuring ionizers that had lower bandwidth, but warns that with the increase in using AC ionizers to eliminate static charge in the flat-panel-display industry and the disk-drive industry, customers must be aware of how to properly employ AC ionizers in their applications. The paper recommends using a digital sampling oscilloscope along with a CPM to ensure that maximum offset voltage produced by AC ionizers is clearly visible. Customers may then adjust ionizer placement or digital set parameters with the ionizers as needed.
"The CPM is an appropriate instrument, but in more recent critical applications, the CPM does not accurately reflect the true energy that is delivered to a product by an ionizer. Our new Technology Solution paper arms customers with the knowledge to measure this energy more accurately," says Scott Gehlke, chairman and CATO at Ion.
