Soldertec Global Develops Lead-free CD-ROMs
September 15, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
UK — A new series of interactive CD-ROMs has been developed by Soldertec Global to assist engineers with the practical introduction of lead-free hand soldering, wave soldering and reflow processes.
Soldertec's new offering costs US $176.89 (䀏) + VAT and can be purchased from www.leadfreesoldering.com.
The CD-ROMs, produced by Bob Willis for Soldertec Global, each begin with a review of why lead-free soldering is such an important issue, which Kay Nimmo, technical director at Tin Technology, introduces. The CD-ROMs provide a step-by-step guide to soldering materials, the soldering process, lead-free inspection and common defects that may be seen in manufacture. The process stages and defects are illustrated with video clips and close-up photography.
The CD-ROMs also contain a defect guide browser, providing examples of defects rather than defect categories, allowing comparison of process problems with the disk content. An option of clicking on a photograph provides a full screen view with an explanation of the possible causes of the defects.
Attendees to the SMART Group event on September 30, "Advanced Reliability and Test Techniques for Lead-free Assemblies" will have the opportunity to win a copy of each CD-ROM. Attendees who score in excess of 80 percent will receive a free copy of the CD-ROM of their choice.
