AVX Receives Corporate Environmental Achievement Award from American Ceramic Society
July 9, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Myrtle Beach, S.C. — AVX Corp. has received the Corporate Environmental Achievement Award (CEAA) from the American Ceramic Society, the world's leading organization dedicated to the advancement of ceramics.
An awards banquet was held to formally recognize AVX during the Society's annual meeting in Indianapolis, Ind.
AVX was selected along with only one other company in 2004 to receive the CEAA. AVX has taken several critical steps to ensure environmental awareness within the company's manufacturing processes.
AVX Corp. has implemented Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures to conform to ISO 14001 standards and regulatory requirements. The project that attracted the ACS's attention dealt with controlling volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the new multi-layer ceramic capacitor manufacturing facility. A modified Environmental C&C Absorber/Desorber system was selected to successfully trap and remove 95 to 99 percent of the VOCs. For a full review of the paper discussing the selection process and results, contact Larry Blue, AVX corporate environmental engineer at (843) 946-0395 or lblue@avxus.com.
The CEAA was initiated in 1997 to recognize outstanding environmental achievements in the field of ceramics made by the American Ceramic Society corporate members. Award recipients must show significant improvement of an existing process and/or product, or the development and implementation of a new process and/or product. Through this award, the ACS honors members who demonstrate improvements in reduction in undesirable effluent streams, expanded recycling of materials, and measurable environmental benefits over previously established processes.
