Advantest Named One of World's 10 Best Equipment Suppliers by VLSI for 16th Straight Year
June 24, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Santa Clara, Calif. — Advantest Corp. announces that for the 16th consecutive year, the company has been rated as one of the world's top equipment suppliers in the annual customer satisfaction survey conducted by VLSI Research Inc.
As Advantest celebrates its 50th anniversary, the VLSI ranking reinforces the company's long-term customer commitment. According to the 2004 results naming the winners of this year's Test & Material Handling Equipment category, Advantest ranked sixth, up one position from last year. The Test & Material Handling Equipment category is one of seven competitive segments covered in this extensive, independent customer satisfaction survey conducted each year.
The company reported that 2003 revenues jumped more than 102 percent over 2002 revenues due to increased demand levels and market share gains in all of their served markets. This is supported by the fact that Advantest jumped six positions to rank seventh in VLSI Research's list of the Top Ten semiconductor equipment suppliers as ranked by sales in 2003 (released March 4, 2004).
VLSI Research reports that surveyed customers for this year's 10 BEST said quality-of-results was the strongest attribute for all 10 BEST equipment suppliers. Specific areas in which Advantest customers expressed the greatest degree of satisfaction included system uptime, quality-of-results, usable throughput, and product performance. VLSI Research Inc has performed its annual survey of customers' satisfaction with their chip equipment suppliers since the 1980s. In compiling data for the 10 BEST surveys, the firm sends more than 41,000 questionnaires to semiconductor companies around the world. Users of semiconductor capital equipment are asked to rate their suppliers in categories that exemplify a supplier's relationship with its customers. In all, there are 13 categories, comprised of seven measures of equipment performance — cost of ownership, product performance, uptime, software, build quality, usable throughput and quality of results — and six measures of customer service — process support, field engineering support, spares support, technical leadership, support after sales, and the vendor's overall commitment to supporting its customers' needs. This year, the survey was translated into six languages and was sent worldwide to North America, Europe, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries, with responding companies representing 96 percent of worldwide chip production in 2003.
