Traceability Software Module
MIMTRACE traceability software module reportedly traces all details of the placement process, including job, lot, panel, board and placed component. For each component placed, 24 data levels are stored. Additionally, search functions help track each of the 24 data levels when they are needed in the future. The module incorporates the elements of MIMRUEST, MIMJOB and MIMTRACE, which together are said to support full traceability to the component wreath, otherwise known as the single spool. Each wreath is labeled with a bar code. MIMRUEST processes newly delivered components and gives them a bar code label that includes identification number, number of components, supplier or manufacturer, delivery date, charge number, and a comment assigned. Benchtop Dispensing System
DispenseMate 550 Series compact, benchtop dispenser is targeted for use in numerous batch dispensing operations, including potting, gasketing, solder paste and adhesive dispensing. The system offers a precision motion system with closed-loop brushless DC motors, as well as control of the company's pumps and valves, digital gages, and more. Additionally, the dispenser uses the proprietary FluidMove for Windows NT software that allows for upgrades as needed, as well as portability to develop programs off-line that can be transferred to other sites or moved to in-line systems. Two models of the system are available: Model 555 features a dispense area of 525 × 525 mm, and the 553 model's dispense area is 325 × 325 mm. Asymtek, Carlsbad, Calif.
X-ray System
Verifier benchtop portable X-ray system is said to handle bare or fully loaded assembled boards measuring up to 16 × 18". Mounted on an existing or portable benchtop, the entry-level, closed-cabinet system features a footprint of 29 × 32". The system's reported large field of view (FOV) targets it for inspection, failure analysis and verification of reworked BGAs, microBGAs, CSPs, and other SMT devices and connectors. Additionally, it is suited for spot checks of production lines for small- and medium-sized EMS providers. The product provides both top-down and angled viewing in continuous, real-time imaging of packages from 2 to 60 mm to detect bridging, missing and poor reflow shapes, as well as voiding. Additionally, the system offers a high-resolution 80 kV, 33 µm microfocus X-ray tube, and the high-resolution detector with zoom lens offers an image of a component in a single view for verifying common assembly or rework defects. Flexible Interconnects
TPCM/TPCF Series high-density power-to-board interconnect system on 2 mm (0.787") pitch reportedly can be used for elevated board stacking. The four-row interconnects can carry 27 A at 80°C over four banks of four power pins each. Power banks are separated from the nearest signal pins by 3.5 mm to maximize power capacity. For board-stacking applications, board spacing with standard connectors can range from 10 to 20 mm (0.394 to 0.787"). End shrouds also are said to ensure proper mating in blind applications. CLEANING EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS
All-Temperature Cleaner
AQUANOX A4520 is designed for enhanced cleaning of pastes, fluxes and uncured adhesives used in the electronics industry. Reportedly low foaming, the concentrated cleaner is effective at temperatures ranging from ambient to 160°F for removing no-clean, rosin, tacky and lead-free flux, pastes and uncured adhesives via spray, immersion or manual applications. The product is available commercially in 1-, 5- and 55-gallon drums. For spray applications, the cleaner works in a concentration range of 5 to 30 percent diluted with de-ionized water. A4520 also works on lead-free and high-temperature reflow applications. Kyzen Corp., Nashville, Tenn.
Evaporators
Model AQ Series comprises Models AQ-7, AQ-12 and AQ-12G and is available in natural gas or propane-heated configurations, with Model AQ-7 available as an electric model. For installation, AQ-7 reportedly requires an electrical service and a 6" vent stack. AQ-12 requires an electrical connection and a 10" diameter vent stack. AQ-12G (gas model) requires a 110 V AC electrical connection, a 0.75" standard pressure gas line and a 10" exhaust stack. The units can be filled using three different methods. After an initial heat up of approximately one hour, AQ-7 evaporates at 5 to 7 gph, while AQ-12 and AQ-12G evaporate at 12 to 17 gph. The evaporators will shut down automatically through a low-level control. A secondary high-temperature shutoff also is provided. When a cycle is complete, the waste material can be drained via a 2" drain opening, vacuumed out of the unit via the removable lid with a wet/dry vacuum or pump, or for solid materials, scooped out. Laser Refurbishment Services
UV laser refurbishment services are available for UV Excimer lasers. This company's refurbished lasers are said to perform better than the product's original factory specifications through upgrades, modifications, and better quality parts and designs used in the re-engineering process. The service includes refurbishment of the complete laser, if necessary, as well as refurbishment and replacement of modules such as tubes, valve banks, vacuum systems, pulse-forming networks and more. The company stocks various types of electrodes and parts, and turnaround time varies based on the extent of the refurbishment and the amount of available in-stock parts. Laser Enclosure Services
By using advanced laser technology as well as precision water jet and plasma cutting tools, this company produces custom enclosures that meet required specifications, reportedly with a fast turnaround. The custom laser cut enclosure service is said to be a turnkey solution for prototyping and low-volume manufacturing. The technical staff works with CAD files provided by the customer, other data files or they can change sketches into CAD files, if necessary, and deliver a finished enclosure to a customer within 24 to 48 hours. Accessories such as mounting fixtures and gaskets also can be produced, and can look like production models with the use of silk screening and powder coating. BGA Sockets
The Tsunami Series of BGA sockets is said to feature a low actuation force and reliable contact system. The mechanical structure of the socket reportedly is built to be more reliable and durable than competitive sockets. Low normal force contacts minimize solder ball deformation, and there is a slight wiping effect when each contact interfaces with the solder ball. This is said to minimize tin-lead buildup on the contacts and maximize life cycles. The series is available in 0.65-, 0.80-, 1.00- and 1.27-mm pitch open-top sockets, as well as 1.00- and 1.27-mm clamshell sockets. The clamshell sockets include a Z-axis adjustment feature that allows packages of varying thickness to use the same grid pattern. Open-top sockets are said to feature two points of contact per I/O, as well as pinch and wipe technology. WELLS-CTI, Phoenix, Ariz.
SOIC Adapter
SOIC adapters reportedly provide an up-grade from older Aromat HB2E relays to surface mount TXSS relays while reportedly keeping the same PCB layout. Available on 7.62 mm (0.3") DIP centers, the adapters reportedly can be mounted on PCBs with hole diameters of 0.71 mm, ±0.08 mm (0.028", ±0.003"). The adapters are constructed of 1.57 mm (0.062") thick FR-4 with 1 oz. of copper traces on both sides. The pins are 360 1/2 hard brass alloy, pin plating is 5.08 µm minimum tin-lead 93/7, and operating temperature is 105°C. Aries Electronics Inc., Frenchtown, N.J.
REWORK & REPAIR
BGA Rework System
X410 BGA and SMT tool- and gas-free rework station is based on proprietary focused IR technology that is said to offer control over the entire rework process. The system reportedly provides high levels of profiling and process control for reworking advanced packages such as SMDs, BGAs, CSPs and flip chips, as well as 0201 and lead-free applications. Additionally, it provides 150 W of component heating using lens-based infrared technology, which reportedly is good for reworking BGAs and other hidden joint devices. Verification and Repair Station
Univer universal verification and repair station features a large FOV and proprietary CAR 800 software to prioritize defects. Additional upgrades include a high-resolution 24" diagonal LCD screen, as well as improved optics and illumination. Stencil Cutter
SL740 SMT stencil laser cutter is designed for low- to medium-volume stencil production, cutting up to 3,000 apertures per hour. The cutter is said to use the same proprietary high-power IR laser source found in the company's higher-end models. SP60 large screen printer's speed is 6.0 seconds, while accuracy is said to be 625 µm with repeatability of 7.5 µm.
