NEPCON East/Electro, Assembly East 2004 Signal Pick-up in Northeast Manufacturing
May 21, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Boston — NEPCON East/Electro and Assembly East 2004 attracted 4,013 manufacturing industry professionals, representing a 14 percent increase from the 2003 event.
The two-day event was held May 5 through 6, 2004, at the Hynes Convention Center in downtown Boston. In addition to the two shows, attendees this year were able to see even more new products at the concurrent running of The Vision Show East.
Attendees came to the event looking for the latest products and technologies available to help them assemble products faster, better and with less. Many came with jobs in hand and specific applications to be addressed. There was steady traffic on both days, and the feeling among the 227 exhibitors and attendees was that there was more business activity than in recent years.
During the keynote speech, "Transforming the Lean Enterprise Value Stream," presented by Professor Deborah Nightingale, Ph.D., of the MIT Lean Aerospace Initiative, Nightingale explained how lean manufacturing is about people and processes efficiently delivering value to every stakeholder and shared how applying lean principles to all production and management levels is required to achieve value for the total enterprise.
The NEPCON East/Electro and Assembly East Conference programs offered numerous opportunities for visitors to gain the knowledge, skills and tools they need to improve their manufacturing processes. The SMTA Boston Conference organized by the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) provided electronics manufacturers with solutions they need in today's market. The IEEE Electro Educational Program, in partnership with the Boston Chapter of CPMT IEEE Society, presented a free seven session educational conference on new and advanced manufacturing technologies. And the two-day Assembly East Conference provided sessions developed by some of the industry's leading assembly associations including several sessions presented by the Greater Boston Manufacturing Partnership.
After spending many years in the Bayside Expo and Conference Center, the 2004 event enjoyed its move to downtown Boston and its numerous dining and entertainment opportunities. Next year, NEPCON East and Assembly East will remain within the city limits and settle in the new Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on May 4 through 5, 2005.
NEPCON East features leading suppliers displaying the full range of electronics manufacturing solutions from adhesives and advance microelectronics to test equipment, rework, wire & cable assembly and more. The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) presents the three-day supporting technical conference program. Active components to wire and cable assemblies can be found at Electro, a co-located event that gives design engineers the unique opportunity to discover new product capabilities and purchasing managers to identify new sources of supply. The IEEE Electro Educational Program in partnership with the Boston Chapter of CPMT IEEE Society presents an educational conference.
