Bliss Industries Web site Offers Lean Manufacturing Resource
May 18, 2004 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Fremont, Calif. — Bliss Industries has introduced "Ask Ken Bliss," a Q&A Web site resource that focuses on lean manufacturing.
The free resource is designed for those trying to improve an SMT process or complete a project. Ken Bliss offers over the phone expertise with storage and handling ideas, lean manufacturing, TOC (The Goal), and general productivity problems.
Bliss generally is available between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time. Contact him directly at (510) 490-8401, Ext. 120
Bliss has a long and varied history within the electronics industry. As an early supplier to Apple Computer, he worked directly with Apple's process engineers in all aspects of assembly. This experience with Apple enabled Bliss to learn every facet of the process of PCB and box build assembly. Building on this experience, he took the ideas and designs that he created at Apple and architected an entire line of products called Assembly Line Solutions.
With more than 20 years of experience, Bliss brings process methods that create enormous improvements in profitability from hidden unused capacity and throughput. The feeder staging station earned Bliss Industries the SMT VISION Award in 1996.
Bliss has been and continues to be in the unique position of being an expert at manufacturing in all areas with an emphasis on electronic assembly. His expertise comes from working closely with process engineers all over the country, understanding their process problems and solving them with methodology and equipment.
First published in 1984, the widely acclaimed book The Goal by E. Goldratt caught the attention of industry professionals and organizations such as Tom Peters, Business Week and Fortune. The Theory of Bottlenecks & Constraints, detailed in this book, marked an important turning point for Bliss Industries. Applying these theories to his own operations as well as his customers' organizations earned Bliss Industries a spot on the "Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies in the Bay Area" list three separate times in the mid-'90s.
First introduced in 2001, Bliss founded "Profit-Driven Manufacturing," a cart-based process and integration service developed to increase SMT-line throughput by up to 40 percent. Many manufacturing theories are based on tracking information and generating reports. What sets this methodology apart from all other "boutique" methods is that it directly addresses the area of increasing profit by increasing output capacity and throughput. Its total focus is the bottom line.
