IPC's Management Meetings to Spur Industry's Decision Makers to Action
November 10, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Northbrook, Ill. — IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries announces the agendas for its Interconnect Manufacturing Services (IMS)/Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Presidents Management and Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) Management Council meetings.
Both exclusive events will take place February 23 through 24, 2004, in Anaheim, Calif., in conjunction with the co-located IPC SMEMA Council's APEX/IPC Printed Circuits Expo/IPC Designers Summit exhibition and conference. To commence this meeting for senior level executives of companies that produce PCBs and provide interconnect manufacturing services, George Dudnikov, Sanmina-SCI Corp., will share key technology drivers and trends impacting the bottom line. Next, a panel of major IMS/PCB suppliers, led by Steve Schaefer, Park/Nelco, will discuss the status of advanced and exotic substrate materials and analyze their business implications. Participants will also gain a clearer perspective of the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM's) future drivers and expectations from a representative of a leading OEM.
After lunch, executives will be able to dig into business issues that face PCB fabricators during a "How's Business?" roundtable discussion. Each attendee will have the opportunity to propose an issue for discussion and the most prevalent topics will be selected for the group to comment on during an open forum.
The peer interaction will then segue into "Best in Practice," a newly developed session highlighting an IMS/PCB company that has successfully resolved a common industry challenge. Attendees will discover how their peers have developed effective methods of communication between customers, suppliers and employees.
IMS/PCB executives will begin the second day of the IMS/PCB Presidents Management Meeting with the show's first keynote address. Michael R. Cannon, Solectron Corp.'s president, chief executive officer and board member, will share the direction of Solectron and the current environment for the EMS industry.
A team of industry experts will then culminate the meeting with "Across the Board," an examination of each phase of the product realization process, including conception, development, introduction and implementation. The panel consists of Session Moderator Alan Rae, Cookson Electronics; Jim Fuller, Endicott Interconnect Technologies; Ron Huston, Advanced Circuits; Sammy Yi, Flextronics; Mark Wolfe, Phoenix International; Steve Frisch, Plexus Corp.; and Nancy Jaster, Lucent Supply Chain Networks. On Monday afternoon, Bob McNamara, Broadview, will open this meeting with an economic and market analysis of the EMS industry. Presidents, owners and senior executives of EMS companies will discover upcoming market changes and learn the secrets to attracting investors.
Next, an EMS company that has recently developed an offshore joint venture will share its experiences in establishing an overseas partnership. A panel of OEMs will further this discussion on performing in today's global marketplace. The representatives will uncover the role North America will play and discuss the future state of manufacturing.
Amit Verma, IPC Automated Inspection Technology Subcommittee, will close the first day's activities by leading a session on the initiative to correlate machine vision algorithms to IPC-A-610 criteria. By linking machines to this standard, EMS companies may increase their quality, customer satisfaction and productivity by eliminating operator oversights during visual inspection.
Following Cannon's keynote address and the "Across the Board" panel discussion, Steve Pudles, NuVisions Manufacturing, will begin Tuesday's assembly by leading a discussion on the latest developments in IT solutions for the EMS industry, including MRP, ERP and DFM software.
After lunch, interactive roundtable discussions will then allow EMS leaders to gain greater insight into the ways their peers are solving common challenges and operating their businesses. Each meeting is open to IPC members and non-members. Participants must be senior level executives within the IMS/PCB and EMS industries and may only attend the meeting that corresponds to their industry segment.
