Phoenix — Avnet Electronics Marketing has formed a team of product, market and supply chain specialists who are exclusively focused and dedicated to defense/aero and homeland security business channels.
Avnet has served the defense/aero industry since before World War II with sales of components to radio communications and aircraft manufacturers. Over the past 50 years, Avnet has continued to develop an expanding range of services in support of this industry. OEMs and suppliers can depend on this experience as they develop the best logistics and supply chain capabilities to serve their defense/aero end customers.
Frank Hardin, senior vice president of Avnet Electronics Marketing, is heading up the team of seasoned veterans. The new team is chartered with driving an enterprise wide strategy across multiple OEM sites and subcontractors, to help meet the changing needs of these customers and their suppliers. In addition to traditional distribution services like on-the-shelf inventory, lead-time management, scheduling flexibility, asset management and physical value-added services, customers are requiring more sophisticated supply chain programs, such as bill-of-material (BOM) management, bonded inventory, vendor-managed inventory, Point Of Use Replenishment Systems (POURS), In-Plant stores and material logistics solutions. Defense/aero customers also are looking for support in design, production, cost avoidance and implementation of best commercial practices.
Avnet's new Defense/Aero team offers specialized programs such as:
- High-reliability and Military Configurator, a component of Avnet's PartBuilder suite, helps design engineers and OEMs find the exact part numbers for specific applications and immediate access to technical documentation. It includes more than 300,000 military circular configurations.
- Avnet IP&E's Electro-Air group is dedicated to providing avionics components and services to the aircraft and airframe industry.
