SMTA International 2003 Products

General Purpose Relay
OEG PCN series relay features a 5 mm wide design that reportedly permits high-density spacing on PCBs. The relay has a 1-form-A contact arrangement and is rated for 3 A, and can handle switching ..voltages up to 250 VAC or 30 VDC resistive. Expected electrical life is 100,000 operations at the rated load. Additionally, bifurcated, gold-plated nickel contacts are said to be capable of switching loads as low as 1 mA at 5 V DC. The coil of the relay requires 120 mW of coil power. Printed circuit terminals in an in-line configuration are provided for board mounting. Tyco Electronics, Harrisburg, Pa.
Under Screen Cleaning
To address cleaning effectiveness and environmental issues, this company launched two under screen cleaning products: DEK-PRO EF under screen cleaning solution and its solvent-based twin, both of which have been formulated to replace hazardous ..IPAs and other low-flashpoint cleaning solvents. The products reportedly remove solder paste without affecting the printing capabilities of the paste, and in most applications, the usage rate can be reduced by up to 50 percent over IPA and other low-flashpoint solvents. Suited for use in all automated screen printing applications, the solution is said to improve manufacturing process control while the solvent exhibits good drying characteristics. Rework/Repair System
The MTS rework and repair system is said to feature HEATWISE performance control technology. Performance levels are said to be chosen by installing a Power Module into the system that locks it into the desired performance level. Additionally, the modules reportedly are visible from across a room, reassuring that operators ..are following process guidelines. The systems are available in two or three handpiece channel versions. More than 10 handpieces can be used with the system, providing a high level of flexibility. Optional handpieces consist of soldering irons, tweezers, desoldering tools, hot air pencils and SMT removal tools. PACE Inc., Annapolis Junction, Md.
Lead-free Defluxing System
Designed for removing all post-reflow solder pastes, including lead-free, SMT800-LD aqueous cleaning/defluxing system reportedly incorporates a PC-based control system that operates under a Windows 98 operating system. Additionally, the system's cleaners are fully networkable, allowing observation or operation from any PC with the user's network. With cleaners specifically for SMT, the system is said to be equipped with a four-sided 36-nozzle spray system that is powered by two high-performance stainless steel spray pumps. The defluxing system is automatic, providing wash, rinse, cleanliness testing and drying, and cleaning results are recorded automatically on the system's hard drive. Manual X-ray Inspection
Xstation 15xx Series is a general purpose manual X-ray inspection (MXI) system that includes four standard models — 1500, 1510, 1525 and 1550 — built around a choice of X-ray sources from 90 to 130 Kv. The fully integrated, compact systems reportedly are easy to learn, use and maintain, and provide various benefits, including a large board handling area of 18 ¥ 24", magnification of 65 to 700X, low maintenance and high MTBF, image archiving in popular file formats, and more. Additionally, the series comes standard with an advance image processor and a complete library of measurement and analysis tools. X-ray Inspection System
FEINFOCUS .20 X-ray inspection series is said to have broad application in the semiconductor component industry. It is a versatile system series with proven reliability, ease of use and low operating expense. Additionally, the series reportedly offers numerous options that increase system manipulation, image chain and image processing functionality, depending ..on the scope of applications for which the system is intended. The proprietary X-ray tube technology and image processing have been updated because the advantages of the latest developments fit with the system's construction. Stencil/Screen Printer
MiniTouch MT2020 is a low-cost semiautomatic stencil/screen printer that reportedly offers advanced technological features and combines them with unprecedented ease ..of operation. The printer is said to be engineered to achieve the highest levels of precision and consistency in paste deposition and can be used in various applications. An automated self-diagnostic program for instant troubleshooting is built in to ensure maximum productivity and to keep the product running under all printing conditions. With a print area of 14 ¥ 16", the printer offers X, Y and Theta adjustments; servo programmable squeegee speed and stop positions; and last board recall and application storage. Digital X-ray Solution
A new series of digital X-ray solutions, XiDAT XD6600 and XD6500 integrated digital image acquisition technology X-ray ..systems are said to enhance grayscale definition. This capability allows users to detect small differences that can reveal problem areas. Additionally, the imaging chain reportedly resolves four times the number of grayscale levels compared to analog systems. With this enhanced vision, defects are said to be easier to detect and a more accurate automatic calculation can be made. Dage Precision Industries Inc., Fremont, Calif.
No-clean Paste
An all-purpose, no-clean solder paste with ICT pin-probeable residues and printing capabilities to ultra-fine-pitch, CSP and 0201 component locations, PureMark 202 is said to deliver a wide reflow window, easy-to-penetrate flux residues and a consistent clean stencil release for fine-pitched applications to 0.4 mm. The paste's anti-slump and solder print deposit definition characteristics reportedly are constant with varying print speeds up to 8" per second. Additionally, print quality is said to remain high even with downtimes up to two hours. Kester Northrop Grumman, Des Plaines, Ill.
Software Upgrades
Five new features are on release, available immediately on any new system from this company and reportedly free to any customer who has purchased a machine from this company in the past two years. Two upgrades, designed for electronics inspection, are a drill offset measurement tool for PCB inspection and a Microsoft Excel output facility designed for BGA results analysis. Additional new features are said to include a 3-D waterfall display that can be generated from a 2-D image; an auto-focusing feature for all applications and improved support for the use of the latest flat panel sensors; and full Windows XP support for customers who want to upgrade from Windows 2000. XYZ Dispensing Systems
The Ultra TT Automation Series is said to be a breakthrough in XYZ dispensing technology that brings a new level of accuracy and convenience to automated tabletop assembly processes. The system allows benchtop bonding, gasketing and filling operations to be programmed with a Palm handheld. Additionally, intuitive graphic user interface software provides positioning and dispensing parameter control, reportedly making setup faster than a standard XYZ system that uses teaching pendants with menu-driven software. The system offers accurate programming — combined with closed-loop servo controls and drive motors for precise positioning of the dispensing tip — which results in higher productivity, greater process consistency, and less scrap and rework. Computed Tomography
Until recently, nondestructive testing with high-resolution computed tomography has been feasible only with immense constructions in large laboratories. However, v|tome|x — offering a highly resolving CT system — reportedly is capable of producing a detailed 3-D radioscopic visualization of a sample that can be inspected from all angles in tomographic slices and sections. The system is equipped with a dedicated, stable microfocus X-ray tube with a maximum voltage of 225 kV, which is said to have been developed specifically for CT and allows both tomographic 3-D and conventional 2-D inspection. Placement Platform
This company is expanding its equipment platform with the introduction of its Siplace CS and Siplace CF placement machines designed for medium-volume production with high demands on flexibility and quick product changeovers. Both the C-Series machines are said to be an extension of the Siplace ..machine concept that has set the industry standard for leadership in technology. The series reportedly consists of the flexible high-speed Siplace CS placement machine, achieving placement rates of 20,000 cph at an accuracy of 68 µm and the Siplace CF multifunctional fine-pitch machine. The modular placement platform allows both models in the series to be equipped with the same feeders, changeover tables and other identical accessories. Thermal Process System
A real-time thermal management system, KIC 24/7 continually monitors reflow and automatically alerts operators when a process ..is out of spec. The system reportedly brings a new level of control and management to the reflow process — complete with automatic SPC charting and traceability for every product. The thermal process system is said to use 30 sensors embedded in the oven at product level to collect and record thermal process data for every board. By eliminating the need for periodic verification profiles, the system increases throughput; there is no downtime for profiling. Additionally, continual monitoring and real-time feedback help guarantee product integrity and increase overall quality levels. KIC, San Diego, Calif.
Lead-free Solder Paste
NC254 is a lead-free pin probe testable no-clean solder paste that reportedly improves throughput and increases the efficiency of advanced SMT applications. The paste is all-purpose and offers broad process windows for printing, reflow and pin probe testing. Additionally, the paste's good wetting ability is said to result in bright, smooth and shiny solder joints. The thermal stability and wetting reportedly make the paste compatible with lead-free alloys and allows wetting to difficult-to-solder parts. Capable of being printed at high speeds without slumping, the paste provides consistent stencil release and repeatable print volumes for fine-pitch applications, and performs well with open squeegees and enclosed pump print processes. Specialty Conductive Adhesive
An electrically conductive solder alternative adhesive, XCE 3104XL doubles stencil or screen life, thereby improving production efficiency and reducing product waste for circuit board assemblers. The adhesive is said to maintain processing consistency over two nine-hour shift periods, rather than one, allowing the manufacturer to forgo stencil or screen printer cleaning for 18 hours and saving production time and materials. Benefits of the adhesive reportedly include increased adhesion on bending, elimination of reject boards on start-up, reduced hazardous waste and increased board productivity because of longer print life. ..Additionally, the adhesive provides contact resistance stability with tin and tin/lead terminated components.
