bb Electronics Selects Cogiscan for MSD Control
August 15, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Denmark and Quebec, Canada — bb electronics recently purchased an MSD Control system from Cogiscan.
The system provides a robust solution to automate the control of Moisture Sensitive Devices (MSD) to insure full compliance with the joint IPC/JEDEC industry standard J-STD-033A — Handling, Packing, Shipping and Use of Moisture/Reflow Sensitive Surface Mount Devices.
Moisture sensitivity is a key manufacturing issue that can create latent components defects if it is not controlled properly. The automated MSD Control system from Cogiscan insures that the latest standard will be properly implemented. By providing real-time visibility of all components on the factory floor, it enables production personnel to be pro-active and reduces bake cycles. This translates in lower manufacturing costs through a reduction in inventory and improvements in material flow and on-time deliveries.
With the Cogiscan system, trays and reels containing MSDs reportedly are identified with RF tags, from the time they are removed from their dry bags, all the way through the final reflow cycle. The Local Control Units (LCUs) are located in strategic locations to read the RF tags and to provide real-time tracking and alarms of all trays and reels on the factory floor. The application software includes all the rules and tables from J-STD-033A and it calculates in real-time the remaining floor life based on the complete history of exposure and storage in various environments.
Cogiscan designs and manufactures material tracking systems for the electronics manufacturing market. For more information, visit www.cogiscan.com.
