Lead-free Capable Reflow Oven
A 10-zone, lead-free capable reflow oven, ELECTROVERT OmniExcel reportedly can optimize operating efficiencies, reduce maintenance intervals and lower lifecycle costs. The reflow/curing oven is targeted for use in high-throughput environments and is said to provide the flexibility required for varying production demands. It offers a process width of 24" with a heated length of 148"and a cooling length of 50.5"Additionally, the oven features a patent-pending flux extraction system that consists of four multi-stage collection units located within the heating sections of the system to continuously scrub process gas for unwanted particulates. Cookson Electronics Equipment, Franklin, Mass.
Position-sensing Encoders
The Mercury family is said to feature the smallest and lightest high-performance sensor, measuring 8.4 mm tall and weighing 5.0 g. Other features include operating speeds to 7.2 meters per second at full resolution, programmable resolution, instrument-free alignment and SmartSignal software. The encoders reportedly address the trend toward system miniaturization and cost reduction, and feature 15 models in four styles: programmable, digital, analog and vacuum. Linear resolutions range from 5 µm to 5 nanometers, and rotary resolutions range from 6,600 counts per revolution to 67.1 million CPR. Additionally, the same sensor works in both linear and rotary applications. MicroE Systems Inc., Natick, Mass.
Liquid Dispenser
MicroMax II Dispenser is for high-density interconnect applications including flip chip underfill, and reportedly features a unibody composite frame that offers the stability required by microdispensing, as well as a small footprint and functional work area. The system also features a linear speed up to 30" per second and maintains thermal consistency of ±3° at 100°C. The dispenser is said to offer numerous productivity improvements, such as taper lock valve mounting, clear view vision with programmable zoom and focus vision alignment used with multi-level and subminiature substrates, and illuminator color and intensity control for enhancing various color backgrounds. Materials dispensed include solder paste, conductive epoxy and underfill. GPD Global, Grand Junction, Colo.
Automated Programming System
Configured for high-volume tape-to-tape device programming, the PS Infinity Series Flash automated programming system is said to be capable of testing, programming and verifying up to 5,000 devices per hour. The series contains FlashCORE architecture, which is the foundation under a line of Flash programming systems capable of delivering high throughput. Covering the spectrum of automated in-line, automated off-line and manual programmers, the FlashCORE-based systems provide a broad range of functionality to suit the specific needs of designers and manufacturers in various electronics industries. Bundled with a high-speed handler, the system also features two configurations that reportedly can be implemented to program up to 3,000 or 5,000 devices per hour, respectively. Data I/O Corp., Redmond, Wash.
CLEANING EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS
Under Screen Cleaning
To address cleaning effectiveness and environmental issues, two under screen cleaning products – DEK-PRO EF under screen cleaning solution and its solvent-based twin – have been formulated to replace hazardous and health-threatening IPA and ..other low-flashpoint cleaning solvents. The products reportedly have been developed as a result of increased demand from mass-imaging system users. Targeted for use in all automated screen printing applications, the solution and solvent remove solder paste without affecting the printing capabilities of the paste and, in most applications, the usage rate can be reduced by up to 50 percent over IPA and other low-flashpoint solvents. DEK, Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom.
Defluxing Chemistry
PCB-Wash concentrated defluxing chemistry is an aqueous-based cleaning/defluxing chemical designed to remove all fluxes and pastes, such as rosin, no-clean and water soluble, from post-reflowed assemblies. The chemistry is shipped in a concentrated form, allowing it to be diluted prior to use. The wash may be used effectively at 7 to 10 percent concentrations, and offers a medium to high loading capacity that may be extended by way of filtration. Unlike traditional saponifiers that rely on high alkalinity to form a soap, the wash is said to use advanced surfactant technology to solvate soils while remaining VOC compliant. Containing a defoaming agent, the chemistry can be used in high-pressure, high-flow batch or inline aqueous cleaning equipment. Aqueous Technologies Corp., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
DISPENSING EQUIPMENT
Adjustable Needle Valve
TS5440 adjustable needle valve is for dispensing low- to medium-viscosity materials with precise deposits over a range of shot and bead sizes. The dispenser extends the needle valve to deliver as little as 0.5 microliters ..per shot, which is said to be four times better than standard needle valves. Consistent shot sizes are achieved using a short opening stroke to provide a fast and positive shut-off. Dot sizes are determined by changing the pressure or dispense time on the controller. An internal spring return reportedly means that the valve is fully adaptable for use with the company's time/pressure controllers. Techcon Systems, Garden Grove, Calif.
Fluid Dispensing
A bench-mounted fluid dispensing machine, JB1113 is said to offer numerous key features at an economical price. The compact, foot pedal-controlled system includes a timer ..for accurate deposits from 0.01 through 30 seconds and a "snuff-back" control that reportedly assists in the prevention of fluid drooling after a dispense cycle. The dispenser is suitable for use with watery fluids and heavy grease materials. Operation is simple, requiring only a standard 80 psi air input and "plug in the wall" connection. I&J Fisnar Inc., Fair Lawn, N.J.
REWORK/REPAIR
Soldering/Rework System
HW 200 dual channel soldering/rework system is said to offer versatility, value and ..efficiency. The compact power source is said to drive two handpieces simultaneously with independent heat level control, featuring HEATWISE performance control technology. The technology reportedly monitors the thermal demand of the work continuously and responds. PACE Inc., Tilbrook, United Kingdom.
Surface Mount Rework System
Developed to meet the needs of system users who demand higher performance and advanced process control, Summit 750 rework system reportedly ensures complete rework capabilities for BGA and QFP components. Additionally, it features a high-performance top heater for process control and high-resolution video viewing with zoom optics. Independent X, Y, Z and theta controls reportedly offer maximum alignment accuracy. A manually operated prism shuttle is said to facilitate accurate and repeatable component alignment. The system simultaneously looks up at the component and down at the board. VJ Electronix, Div. of VJ Technologies Inc., Bohemia, N.Y.
SOFTWARE
Software Release
Siplace Pro 1.4 reportedly offers features that are critical to SMT success such as a single program download to the Siplace line, multiple products in a single setup and wizards to simply complex tasks. The software is said to provide complete capabilities for data preparation, program generation, machine optimization, line balancing and job scheduling. The program reportedly simplifies new product introductions with off-line virtual product builds. Siemens Dematic Electronics Assembly Systems Inc., Norcross, Ga.
