Teradyne Opens Shanghai Facility
March 13, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Shanghai -- Teradyne Inc. has opened a new Shanghai office and manufacturing facility, expanding the company's operations in China.
The 84,000 sq ft. office will serve Chinese and multinational customers requiring test systems for a broad range of semiconductor devices, test and inspection systems for printed circuit boards, and high-density connectors, backplanes, and complex system integration and test services. The first three Integra J750 test systems manufactured by Teradyne in China marked the opening of Teradyne's Shanghai office. As part of the opening celebration, Teradyne will be exhibiting this week at SEMICON China and in April at Nepcon Shanghai.
Honored guest Yang Xiao Ming, president and general manager, Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone & Jinqiao Hi-Tech Park, attended the official opening ceremony. George Chamillard, Teradyne's chairman and CEO, accompanied by John Casey, president of Teradyne's Assembly Test Division; Rick Schneider, president of Teradyne's Connections Systems Division; and Marc Levine, vice president of Teradyne's Semiconductor Test Division Worldwide Field Operations, also attended the opening ceremony.
The first Teradyne test system in China, a T317, was shipped in 1979 to the Guangzhou Eastern Factory for semiconductor device manufacturing. Since that time, Teradyne has grown with China's technology industry. Currently, more than 200 Teradyne semiconductor systems and more than 600 circuit board test and inspection systems are installed in the country. Teradyne also provides Connections Systems' products and services to a growing list of Chinese communication companies and in addition, provides manufacturing and test services for the Integra J750 line of semiconductor test systems in the Shanghai facility. Driven by these combined activities, Teradyne expects to double the current employment of 80 people by year-end.
Teradyne is the world's largest supplier of automatic test equipment and is a leading supplier of interconnection systems. For more information, visit www.teradyne.com.
