The system's neural network also can be fine-tuned to detect even small failures, which is said to result in thorough inspections with low false fail rates. The software is said to generate programs from CAD data automatically. Manncorp, Huntingdon Valley, Pa. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
Adhesive Dot Inspection System
GlueScan AOI adhesive dot inspection system is said to use a Windows interface integrated with an automatic table and image-processing unit to provide 100 percent ..inspection of adhesive placement on PCBs after stenciling, dispensing or stamping. By ensuring accurate glue deposition before entering the production placement environment, the system reportedly can increase product yield and eliminate downtime, extensive rework and equipment repairs due to missing or misprinted glue dots. The inspection system also is programmed from a golden board in minutes, and able to automatically verify the absence/presence of all glue dots in seconds. Smart Sonic Corp., Van Nuys, Calif. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
Final Assembly Inspection System
K2-AOI final assembly inspection system is a batch processor reportedly capable of inspecting all visible SMT components, nuts, bolts, labels, through-hole components, LEDs and connectors in place on the board. Edge connector pins are said to be inspected through 45° mirrors set up in the fixtures that hold the boards because of the increased depth of field of the system's 4 million pixel large-format digital color camera. Vectron, San Diego, Calif. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
Solder Inspection System
VT-WIN II PCB solder inspection system can be used either in- or off-line for rapid, accurate identification of various circuit board assembly defects. Its zoom lens reportedly allows multiple magnifications down to 10 µm per pixel. The system is said to have advanced algorithms that enable proper inspection of leading technology processes, such as lead-free solder. The system's software, which is programmed via CAD placement data, also incorporates intelligent algorithms to reduce operator-programming time. Omron Electronics LLC, Schaumburg, Ill. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
AOI Series
VT-9000 series of AOI systems for electronics assembly are said to complement and expand the company's existing line of solutions that include its Trion-2000 AOI series and its Trion Advisor suite of yield management solutions. The series is said to feature field-proven 2- and 3-D inspection techniques for accurate, consistent detection of paste, component placement and solder joint defects at full line speeds. Fully integrated Trion Advisor software tools are said to provide data for intelligent process control. Orbotech Ltd., Yavne, Israel. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
AXI System
VJ-2000 LS AXI system is said to be capable of inspecting boards up to 24 x 36". The system is said to provide high-resolution ..imagery and up to 5,000X magnification for BGAs, wire bonds and various CSPs. A closed-loop, servo-driven platform also is said to maintain better than 0.005" locational accuracy, while a 5-axis manipulator facilitates component/defect location. VJ Electronix, Div. of V.J. Technologies Inc., Bohemia, N.Y. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
BGA Inspection Systems
IS-1000 family of three BGA inspection systems is said to provide a nondestructive method of visually inspecting hidden solder joints. This reportedly aids in the reduction of field failures, while catching defects that other tests cannot detect reliably. All three systems are said to use a built-in LED light source, which provides images of surface mounted components. For underboard components or BGA fault identification, an optional fiber optic backlight also is available, which is said to provide the ability to inspect up to eight or nine balls from the edge of a BGA. ASG, Div. of Jergens Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
Measurement, Inspection and Feedback System
CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control error measurement, inspection and feedback system is said to collect data from boards in process and let operators take immediate, corrective action whenever any segment of line performance drops below preset limits. The combination of the company's AutoInspector series of AOI systems and CIMCIS Dynamic Process Control reportedly gives users the ability to monitor and optimize pick-and-place systems, feeders, and nozzles, which is said to result in tightly controlled process variability, higher first pass yields and improved quality. Machine Vision Products Inc. (MVP), Carlsbad, Calif. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
X-ray System
The Hawk System offers magnification abilities and rapid real-time X-ray inspection in a space-saving footprint of 975 x 1,195 mm. The increase in magnification capability up to 6,000X reportedly is due to an advanced ..X-ray target and the latest company in-house suite of software that ensures the system is user-friendly in all areas of its function. The system's ixs control and analysis software, which runs on a Windows NT platform is said to allow the user to operate the system manually or program for automatic inspection. Other features include a unique X-ray source that incorporates the vacuum assembly, electron gun and HT generator in one housing to offer greater reliability. X-Tek Systems Ltd., Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
AOI System
OptiCon SmartLine AOI system reportedly is for use with PCBs. Its compact, space-saving design is said to mean that the system is targeted for both prototype and small-batch production applications. Due to its ease of use, the system is said to enable an optimal entry into AOI. The system is a standalone, which has been designed as a desktop unit and also features a dimension of 530 x 620 x 360 mm, and PCBs up to 280 x 280 mm can be tested. GOEPEL Electronic, Jena, Germany. For free data, visit www.onlinecenter.to/smt.
Large-board Inspection
FXS-160.40 (T.I.G.E.R) system includes an additional feature than is said to enable oversized board capabilities. An increased need for larger scanning areas by the telecommunications switching, embedded backplane and other large-board manufacturers reportedly led the company to offer the T.I.G.E.R. system with an optional 24 x 24" sample tray, allowing for oblique angle view inspection of large-board samples. A benefit to users with production environment application is said to be that the larger inspection area allows a greater number of smaller components to be inspected at a single time.
