AIM and the Torrey S. Crane Co. Sign CASTIN Lead-Free License Agreement
March 3, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Montreal and Connecticut -- AIM Inc. and The Torrey S. Crane Co. have signed a worldwide license agreement for AIM's patented lead-free alloy, trade-named CASTIN.
The agreement enables The Torrey S. Crane Co. to manufacture and sell the CASTIN alloy throughout the world in all solder forms, including ribbon, wire solder, solder paste, solder bar and preforms.
CASTIN is an environmentally safe, lead-free solder comprised of tin, silver, copper and a grain-refining and temperature-reducing dopant. It reportedly features a relatively low melting temperature, offers superior joint strength, and inhibits intermetallic growth during high thermal temperature cycling. CASTIN contains commonly found, non-toxic elemental constituents. ASTIN is uniquely positioned as a cost efficient alternative to conventional tin-lead solders, as well as to common lead-free alternatives Sn/Ag and Sn/Ag/Cu.
AIM is a leading global manufacturer of assembly materials for the electronics industry. The company develops and markets a complete line of solder paste, liquid flux, cored wire, bar solder, adhesives, preforms and specialty joining solutions for the electronics assembly, PC fabrication, component production and other industries. The Torrey S. Crane Co. has been manufacturing solders since 1930. The company is ISO 9002 certified and manufactures a complete line of solders ranging from pure tin and lead to alloys with silver, bismuth, and indium, specializing in foils and fine wire.
