Raytheon Keynote to Share Design for Six Sigma Successes
February 19, 2003 |Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
Norwalk, Conn. -- Gregory S. Shelton, vice president of engineering and technology of the Raytheon Co., will present his insights into Design for Six Sigma with attendees at noon on Tuesday, June 10 at NEPCON East/Electro and Assembly East 2003.
The co-located manufacturing shows will take place June 10 and 11, 2003, at the Bayside Expo and Conference Center in Boston. The comprehensive conference program will begin one day earlier on June 9. For the first time in their more than 40-year history, NEPCON East/Electro will share the venue with the Assembly East show, which moves to Boston for 2003 after spending five years in the Philadelphia area. Combined, these three shows will provide Northeast manufacturers with a single, convenient source for cutting-edge manufacturing solutions at the board, component and final product assembly levels.
In his address, which is free to all registered NEPCON East/Electro and Assembly East attendees and exhibitors, Shelton will share the successes that Raytheon has experienced with their implementation of Design for Six Sigma. He will include ideas on how Design for Six Sigma drives the total value chain and on critical chain and life cycle optimization through DFSS principles. Shelton will also comment on how Raytheon, and other companies, can optimize the value stream from customer requirements through engineering and manufacturing, and life cycle support.
Shelton has been responsible for engineering, technology and program management throughout Raytheon since May 2001. Previously, Shelton served as vice president of engineering for Raytheon's missiles business since 1998. Prior to that he was vice president, engineering, for Hughes Weapons Systems segment. He also served as vice president and product line manager, Air Missiles and Advanced Programs and Technology for Hughes Missile Systems Co. The defense business of Hughes merged with Raytheon in 1997.
Shelton worked for General Dynamics' (GD) missile business before Hughes acquired it. He joined GD in 1973 and served as director, design engineering for GD's Pomona division and as vice president, engineering for GD's Air and Missile Defense business.
NEPCON East/Electro 2003 takes place June 10 through 11 at the Bayside Expo & Conference Center in Boston, Mass. The technical conference program designed by the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) begins one day earlier, on June 9. This year's program also includes a session on ESD from the Electro Static Discharge association. The event will feature leading suppliers displaying the full range of electronics manufacturing solutions from adhesives and advance microelectronics to test equipment, rework, wire & cable assembly and more. Active components to wire and cable assemblies can be found at Electro, a co-located event that gives design engineers the unique opportunity to discover new product capabilities and purchasing managers to identify new sources of supply.
