Thus far, the newly formed Steering Committee has outlined its purpose and direction through the approval of the following PMAC Mission Statement: The mission of the Photonics Manufacturers' Association Council (PMAC) is to further the competitive excellence and financial success of suppliers to the international photonics industry and their customers. The PMAC initiates, drives and coordinates an agenda of roadmapping, standardization and other focused efforts (e.g., legislation, market measurement, education) that enhance the efficiency of the photonics supply chain. The PMAC will actively coordinate with other trade, professional, standards, and industry organizations where possible to effectively accomplish this mission.Next on its priority list, the Committee plans to staff a Standards Subcommittee with experienced leaders from both the OEM and supplier sectors by the end of Q1 2003. The charter of this subcommittee will include: distilling roadmap contents into areas requiring standardization efforts; clarifying the standards creation process; promoting current standards initiatives and activities (both inside and outside of IPC); networking with the appropriate bodies in the development, publication and implementation of standards; and maintaining a standards library/web links to assist membership.
Presently, the Steering Committee is interviewing many qualified executives and managers of photonics companies, as well as drawing from a collection of more than 150 individuals who previously expressed interest in participating on the subcommittee or working directly on standards development.
