Chip ShooterAchieving 20,000 cph, Topaz X/Xi-II is a chip shooter said to have the ability of placing components from a range of 0201s to 0.015" QFPs. Because the shooter reportedly features a combination of high-speed and a large component range, the option of using the machine as a standalone or as an effective line balancer is available. Tabletop AOI Inspection SystemThe VT-MOUSE tabletop inspection system is for solder and component inspection in post-assembly inspection. The system reportedly inspects component presence/absence, polarity, tombstones and solder defects like the company's larger AOI machines, but at a size targeted toward low-volume applications. The system is said to offer true color inspection and the company's patented color highlight technology to find hard-to-detect solder defects and component irregularities. Benchtop MachinesBenchtop wavesolder machines are said to be available with single wave for through-hole or dual wave for SMT board assembly in 8 and 12". Some features reportedly include very little solder for their size, stainless steel solder pot, slide-out stainless steel foam fluxer and onboard air compressor. The computer control of the benchtop machines includes 10 menu profile storage, RS232 serial interface, SPC online or offline data logging, low solder indicator, and fault monitoring and reporting. High-speed Flexible AssemblerKE-2020 is a high-speed flexible assembler designed to place small and odd-shaped components, as well as standard components, at optimum speed. The assembler is said to be equipped with a high-speed, four-nozzle head for placing components, and has one fine-pitch placement head with one nozzle capable of placing 0201 components, microBGAs, CSPs and other odd-shaped components. Also featured is a vision system with all-ball recognition, which inspects for the presence and condition of balls and prevents faulty balls from entering production. The fine-pitch head reportedly is capable of placing up to 1,800 cph, while the multi-nozzle head is able to place up to 11,000 components. Juki Automation Systems Inc., Morrisville, N.C.
Software Plug-inA free, downloadable software plug-in reportedly improves the productivity of test software developers by allowing them to integrate existing measurement routines into the TestExec SL software. The action wizard, a plug-in component for the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment, reportedly simplifies integrating the C test code into the user's test executive. Once installed, the action wizard is said to appear to the user as part of Visual Studio and is accessible from a click of a mouse. The user is walked interactively through the configuration, transparently adding any wrapper code required to integrate the user-supplied code. Once compiled and linked, the routine is ready, freeing test engineers to further optimize their manufacturing test systems. Agilent Technologies, Loveland, Colo.
Machine Vision Frame GrabberVisionscape 1744 vision accelerator board functions as a frame grabber, featuring an onboard vision ASIC that speeds up a broad range of low-level image processing and analysis algorithms. The interface is said to support up to four independent high-resolution, double speed, progressive scanning, partial scanning or shutter-controlled cameras. The frame grabber reportedly has multi-resolution capabilities, supporting the mixing and matching of cameras with different sized pixel arrays on separate camera channels. RVSI, Canton, Mass.
Automated Programming SystemsPS200 and PS300 are automated programming systems that feature fast changeover times and high productivity. The PS Series is said to help increase productivity and reduce costs by configuring the system to maximize throughput for any job, delivering high reliability and quick changeover times to increase daily output. These systems reportedly can be configured with up to 12 universal programming sites or 48 Flash memory sites, and any combination of both to maximize efficiency for a wide range of applications. Compact PCB Test SolutionGR TestStation TSM reportedly has large-scale, in-circuit PCB test capabilities in a small form factor. With a reduced footprint designed to test smaller assemblies, this system is said to be well suited to today's more compact electronics products. The platform is expandable to 1,408 pins and is available in multiplexed and non-multiplexed pin configurations. The UltraPin technology pin boards support logic levels, programmable slew rates and patented backdrive control features that are programmable per pin. GenRad Inc., Westford, Mass.
Mobile Storage and WorkbenchThe Printer Caddy is a mobile storage and workbench that conveniently carries equipment and consumables directly to the printing system, where space often is at a premium. The product reportedly features a flat work surface with a slide-away stainless steel sink drawer for convenience and versatility. The workstation is replenished off-line before being brought to the machine. Soft rubber castors and the Quicklock brake guarantee quiet and safe maneuverability on the shop floor. X-ray TubeThe xs|series nanofocus X-ray tube is capable of obtaining images down to 0.5 μm (500 nm), small enough to clearly see microvias. Offered as an option to the company's line of X-ray systems, the X-ray tube is said to provide quality checking and failure analysis to increase productivity and reduce scrap. Multifunctional Placement MachinesThe QP-3 Series of multifunctional SMD placement machines reportedly features a space-saving footprint of less than 2.75 ft. The small footprint, along with its speed and flexibility, reportedly makes it ideal for supplementing a chip shooter or acting as a standalone machine. Film AdhesiveCF 3350 silver bearing, electrically and thermally conductive epoxy film adhesive reportedly can be used for bonding all types of circuit board materials to metal backplates and heat sinks. The adhesive is said to be available in custom preform shapes in thicknesses of 0.002, 0.003, 0.004, 0.005 and 0.006". Applications include bonding high-frequency fluoropolymer and ceramic circuits to copper, brass, Kovar and aluminum. In most cases, these metals are protected, typically with a gold plate finish. Modular Dispensing SystemModular XyflexPro reportedly features a single, modular platform and a small footprint as small as 787 mm (31") wide. Its modularity allows two, three or four machines to be installed in-line, all controlled from a single PC-based controller and Windows NT user interface. The system is said to handle medium- to high-speed dispensing in increments of 30,000 dots per hour, permiting manufacturers to custom configure or upgrade the modules to meet their manufacturing requirements. The system also features interchangeable pumps, heating options and conveyor systems, increasing the custom-configuration options. Opto PlatformThe GSMxs opto platform is compatible with the company's existing options, such as wafer feeding, flip chip placement, fluxing and materials dispensing. The platform reportedly features look-before-pick vision, high-resolution on-axis lighting assemblies, the ability to handle small GaAs and Inp die with low placement force nozzles, a modular design for in-situ eutectic die attach, and in-situ UV curing nozzles. Rotary Placement MachinePanasert MSR is a high-speed, rotary, multifunctional placement machine that provides versatility and flexibility in various components. The machine reportedly features a six-nozzle, 16-head rotary system and an X-Y table that moves ±12 mm to deliver fast, accurate component placement at speeds up to 0.08 seconds per piece. To increase placement accuracy, the machine is said to use a combination of reflective and transmissive recognitions and a coaxial light technology that enables 0603 component placement and ball recognition for CSPs and BGAs. Support ModuleThe E-Support module is available for the CircuitCAM CIM software. This module is said to use e-mail and the Internet to link customers to a technical support engineer to provide total customer support, service and recurring upgrades. Each customer is assigned a personal technical support engineer who resolves product-related problems that may occur. With a click of the mouse, a CircuitCAM customer may send to the support engineer a packet of data, which includes the BOM, CAD, visual aids and machine outputs. Nanofocus Inspection SystemFOX-160.25 nanofocus X-ray inspection system is a test system for PCB and semiconductor manufacturers to conduct real-time inspection of BGA, microBGA, flip chip, chip-on-board, bond wires and other applications. The X-ray system reportedly offers submicron defect detection and the smallest focal spot size of less than 1 μm. The system also is said to provide a total magnification up to 7,200X (2,400X geometric magnification) and feature recognition of 500 nm (0.5 μm). Memory Test SystemExtending the FLASH 750 memory test system platform, FLASH 750 MicroCOSM memory test system reportedly reduces semiconductor manufacturers' time and cost to ramp into high-volume manufacturing by enabling the development and debug of test programs, DIBs and probe cards without impacting current production. The MicroCOSM is said to have the same 100 MHz electronics interface correlation and IG-XL software as the high-parallel FLASH 750 production system. Component CounterGC-20 portable taped component counter is designed for taking inventory, pre-kitting and component count verification. The compact component counter is said to feature a photoelectric sensor, permitting exact amount of virtually all component types and sizes, and a push-button marker for taped components. AXI SystemVJ-2000 LS automated X-ray (AXI ) system can inspect boards up to 24 x 36". The system reportedly provides high-resolution imagery and up to 5,000X magnification for BGAs, wire bonds and other various CSPs. A closed-loop, servo-driven platform is said to maintain better than 0.005" locational accuracy, while a 5-axis manipulator facilitates component/defect location. Auger PumpDV-7000 Heli-Flow rotary positive displacement auger pump reportedly features a series of hardened augers for dispensing epoxy-filled material with high-flow rate for reportedly fast dam writing. The pump is said to feature four interchangeable cartridges available in a luer needle configuration. The feedscrew is not custom fit to the pump body and can be replaced. Customers can purchase multiple feed screws and cartridges, reportedly maximizing the valve's application capabilities at a reduced cost. Asymtek, Carlsbad, Calif.
Component Placement Machine Flexplacer 8 is a cost-effective and versatile component placement machine capable of handling components including QFPs and BGAs. The machine encompasses a single gantry fit with an eight nozzle revolver head. This configuration is said to allow the component placement rate to reach as high as 9,000 per hour. The placement machine reportedly includes a head mounted laser that uses on-the-fly component alignment along with a static vision system for fine-pitch components and BGAs. Ultrasonic Cleaning SystemAquaSonic AQS-7500 Ultrasonic Cleaning System features closed-loop waste recycling rather than evaporation to help preserve costs in energy, water and cleaning chemistry. The cleaning system is said to use a 3-stage filtration system to clean the wastewater and then store the filtered water for reuse. The rinse tank water is recirculated constantly, returning high-purity water to the unit's rinse chamber. A wash tank using the correct chemistry reportedly maintains effective cleaning properties under the use of 20 to 30 stencil cleaning cycles daily with changing the filter elements monthly. Inspection SystemThe Inspector CVI inspection system features an off-line programming station based on a desktop PC, which allows new application preparation without interfering with system operation. The system's advantage reportedly is the capability to run inspection processes without any programming stage, resulting in a short setup time. Besides loading a CAD file, identical to the file used for placement machines, the system does not require any additional data its internal database is said to contain a comprehensive list of components geometry, which is used by its patent-pending algorithms to inspect placement integrity and solder joint quality. Combination ChairsClass 100-combination cleanroom/static control ergonomic seating reportedly features a filtration system within the seat itself. The system is said to trap particulates while allowing the seat to conform to body shape and the filter to allow unrestricted air flow with a filter permeability of 230 CFM/FT2. Chair backrests are encased in vinyl upholstery and a polypropylene rear panel protects the vinyl in case the chair bumps into a workstation. The task control provides seated ergonomic tilt adjustments for the backrest with the touch of a paddle and the chair swivels to permit side-to-side motion. Open-top SocketTextool brand 0.65 mm BGA open-top Type II socket is an addition to the Textool test and burn-in socket family, and accommodates packages up to 17 x 17 mm with a 25 x 25 mm matrix. The socket's open-top design accommodates a wide range of package thicknesses, and reportedly allows excellent airflow around the device. A retractable locating guide is said to provide for easy board mounting, even with hundreds of leads. 3-D Measuring SystemSiscan is a high-resolution laser system for detecting surface structures in the micrometer range. Based on the measuring principle of the confocal microscope, the patented sensor system reportedly can guarantee exact 3-D measurements of a surface profile. Incorrect measurements due to multiple reflects or contrast problems, as they occur in the case of traditional methods using CCD cameras, are said to be eliminated with the system.
