August Technology Further Automates LED Inspection Process

Bloomington, Minn. -- August Technology has received orders for automated wafer inspection systems from multiple leading manufacturers of light emitting diodes (LEDs).
The orders, which are scheduled to ship this quarter, include NSX Series automated inspection systems and automated film frame handlers and are valued at over $1.5 million.
The demand for LEDs has increased with the demand for smaller, thinner consumer products such as mobile phones and digital cameras, as well as a variety of automotive applications. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, the LED market is expected to grow by 65 percent by 2005; Dataquest predicts the worldwide mobile handset market will grow by 27 percent in the same period.
