EKRA GmbH, Speedline File Patent Infringement Lawsuits

Bonnigheim, Germany, Franklin, Mass., and Marlboro, Mass. -- EKRA GmbH has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Speedline Technologies in the district court in Bonnigheim, Germany, while Speedline Technologies (the legal entity name of Cookson Electronics Equipment) has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against EKRA America Inc. in the Federal District Court in Boston, Mass., and plans to file a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (US ITC) in Washington, D.C. against EKRA America Inc. and its parent company, EKRA Germany GmbH.
Speedline's action against EKRA was filed regarding the importation and sale of screen printers having vision systems or multiple lanes. According to Speedline, EKRA has been importing and selling in the United States screen printers having features or options covered by U.S. Patent No. 5,060,063, U.S. Patent No. 5,807,606 and U.S. Patent No. 5,873,939 held by Speedline Technologies. Speedline Technologies seeks damages from EKRA's alleged infringement of the Speedline Technologies patents, as well as an injunction prohibiting EKRA from further sales of the products in the U.S.
Meanwhile, according to EKRA, Speedline, and its prior entity MPM, has been importing and selling in Germany screen printers having features or options covered by patents that are owned by EKRA. In the patent action, EKRA seeks damages for Speedline's infringement of EKRA's patents as well as an injunction prohibiting Speedline from further sale of the infringing products in Germany.
EKRA America's parent, EKRA GmbH, has initiated a patent action in Germany against Speedline in connection with EKRA's 2 1/2D Inspection technology. That case is to be decided by the Court in Germany in March 2003.
