EXFO Delivers In Excess of 10,000 Modular Test Platforms
November 20, 2002 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Quebec City, Canada -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has shipped well in excess of 10,000 modular test platforms.
EXFO, which pioneered the development of modular architectures for optical testing in 1996, has released several FTB and IQS/IQ test platforms over the years to meet the various market requirements of the optical networking life cycle including R&D, manufacturing, installation and maintenance, and network monitoring.
The main advantage of EXFO's system design for customers reportedly is that, unlike stand-alone units, new test modules can be rapidly developed to meet changing industry needs. As customer requirements evolve, they can purchase additional test modules that are compatible with their original platforms and, as a result, protect their initial investments. Conversely, customers can seamlessly migrate to next-generation platforms that support both the latest and previously launched test modules.
Not content to rest on its first-mover advantage, EXFO is said to be the first fiber-optic test and measurement manufacturer this year to fully integrate protocol-, optical- and physical-layer testing capabilities inside a single modular platform. With this all-in-one solution, field technicians can select test modules from an extensive portfolio of technologies, including 10 Gb/second SONET/SDH analyzers, Gigabit Ethernet testers, optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs), chromatic dispersion (CD) analyzers, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) analyzers, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), optical loss test sets and optical switches, to solve their increasingly complex network testing issues.
EXFO's current test platform offering consists of the FTB-400 Universal Test System and FTB-100B Mini-OTDR for network service providers as well as the IQS-500 Intelligent Test System for system vendors and optical component manufacturers. In addition, the company recently added multi-channel telecom and datacom testing platforms for system vendors following the recent acquisition of the assets of gnubi communications. All of these best-in-class platforms, which boast an intuitive graphical user interface, are supported by approximately 25 families of test modules.
EXFO is a leading designer and manufacturer of fiber-optic test, measurement, monitoring and automation solutions for the global telecommunications industry. For more information, visit www.exfo.com.
