With built-in system intelligence and patented thermal sensing, the system reportedly provides levels of precision, control and repeatability not possible with thermal batch curing. Additionally, it performs UV post-curing and visible light-cure materials. IR light is delivered from a 150 W proprietary quartz halogen bulb, focused only in the precise area it is needed. Using a closed-loop feedback mode, data from the noncontact temperature sensor can be used to adjust lamp output automatically to optimize cure and process properties. EFOS Inc., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Electrostatic FieldmeterA compact, portable instrument for measuring electrostatic charge, FMX-002 is said to measure positive and negative polarity of charges to 20 kV at a 1" (25 mm) distance. The measurement device features a combination of digital voltage displace and an LCD bar graph to indicate voltages as well as field polarity and intensity. Additional features include a hold function when power is off, automatic shutoff, four-stage battery level display and multifunction audible indicators. In addition to measuring charges, the system reportedly can be used for periodic verification of ionizer balance performance of ±200 V by attaching a charge plate. SIMCO Static Control and Cleanroom Products, Hatfield, Pa.
Direct Laser Marking SystemThe 3000 Series direct laser marking system is a fiber, laser-based system featuring user-friendly software for marking applications. The unit requires very low power to operate, resulting in reduced ownership costs for manufacturers. Reportedly one of the smallest direct laser marking systems available, it can be integrated easily into an existing marking system. The system creates permanent, legible marks using a continuous wave mode; can vary the depth of the mark; and be used on a wide variety of materials. No solvents are required for this clean marking system, eliminating spills, time and toxicity. The unit uses a diode pumped, fiber laser, which extends the overall life of the system. MARKEM Corp., Keene, N.H.
Zero Volt Benchtop IonizerZV15100 benchtop Zero Volt Ionizer eliminates static charges on nonconductive materials and isolated conductors. It features reduced air velocity with increased coverage (reportedly without sacrificing decay time, user programmable maintenance, alarm levels and data output). The small, compact fan features steady state DC ionization and patented Sense Feedback balancing. The ionized air provides uniform coverage and faster neutralization times, giving continuous coverage to work surfaces that have turbulent or no airflow. This enables the ionizer to be used where high-air veloc- ity is detrimental to the process, such as gold wire bonding, surface mount areas and MR head manufacturing. Semtronics, Garden Grove, Calif.
CLEANING MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
Purge CompoundThe new 6-460Y compound is said to simplify maintenance of auger valves used for dispensing solder paste. A conditioning and purging agent that cleans internal valve components without the need to disassemble the valve, the compound is said to prevent solder paste buildup inside the valve and promote trouble-free operation. The compound was designed for compatibility with solder paste so that trace compound residues will not interfere with the solder reflow. It is available in 10 and 30 cc barrels and 6 oz cartridges. EFD Inc., Lincoln, R.I.
Water-based CleanerDeveloped as the first water-based cleaner for underside wiping in stencil printers, VIGNON SC 200 reportedly removes solder paste residues from the stencil during the printing process. Supported by the vacuum drying system, the product was designed to dry as fast as a solvent-based cleaner. Compared to other products, the water-based cleaner reportedly has no flash point and meets all safety requirements. The cleaner is said to be ideal for the removal of SMT adhesives and solder pastes in water-based, spray-in-the-air and ultrasonic applications. Zestron Corp., Ashburn, Va.
Compact Cleaning MachineTsunami Class III Cleaner is for use in electronics assemblies and precision machine parts with low- to moderate-volume assembly, rework, prototype and laboratory applications. The 250 lb unit with an overall footprint of 67 x 31 x 21" reportedly is convenient for situations with restricted floor space, and its standard 110V AC power requirement eliminates the need for permanent hard wiring. It is equipped with a touch-screen interface panel to control its five chamber cleaning system (a wash chamber, three rinse chambers and an air blow-off chamber with dual air-knives supplied by standard filtered compressed air). Additionally, the cleaner is capable of temperatures up to 150°F. Marseco Inc., Huntington Beach, Calif.
