Product-controlled ManufacturingSiplace placement systems with dual conveyors reportedly can control production using a bar code reader. Designed to fully automate PCB manufacturing for products with the same feeder setup, product changeover is now possible without requiring the line to be run empty. A bar code reader mounted in the PCB input conveyor uses a laser scanner to read the bar code label on the PCB. The line computer then uses this information to select the correct placement program from a bar code assignment list and transmit the board to the correct location. All current types of bar code are said to be supported.Siemens AG, Nuremberg, Germany.
ASSEMBLY TOOLS & EQUIPMENTCoating and Drying SystemA new compact, automated, coating and drying system has been designed to accommodate a two-stage coating application process in an 11 x 11' footprint. Designed to be both modular and mobile, system features include a dual-temperature controlled, two-zone oven that wraps around the outside of the spray booth section of the machine. This reportedly helps promote optimum flash and adhesion without the need for separate spray booth heaters. Additionally, the system's compact Staubli robot can be programmed for a wide range of spray application tasks.Thierica Equipment Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.
Personal Ground TesterThe Personal Ground Tester tests both wrist strap and coil cord components in an attempt to ensure safety and proper connection on an operator's wrist. Electronics Manufacturing ServicesIn addition to delivery of design, assembly, purchasing, test and after-sales service of electronics products, this European services provider is said to offer a permanent source of improvement, including technical solutions, process enhancement and productivity gains. The company has a multinational customer base that is active in the fields of telecom, automotive, multimedia, household appliances and industrial products. This base is served by their four manufacturing sites in Eastern and Western Europe.Sofrel, Montlimart, France.
HARDWARE/ACCESSORIESFlat Tie HolderA new flat tie holder with a double-backed, rubber-based adhesive is offered in three sizes. Reportedly designed as an alternative to the acrylic-based adhesive, the new rubber adhesive works on most surfaces and offers a quick-stick solution when parts will be used soon after application. Also offered is an extensive line of other mounting options: screw-fastened, rivet-fastened arrowhead style and masonry mount.Richco Inc., Chicago, Ill.
Shoulder and Captive Panel ScrewsPrecision shoulder screws and captive panel screws are both manufactured in a wide variety of English and metric dimensions. Shoulder screws reportedly provide close tolerance spacing and bearing surfaces in many applications; captive panel screws installed in equipment panels assure that mounting hardware is not lost. Materials include brass, steel and stainless steel with dozens of metal finishes. The company's complete line of hardware also includes standoffs, spacers, jackscrews, circuit board supports, insulating washers, a complete section of fixed and folding handles, and a range of hardware that meets U.S. National Aerospace Standards.RAF Electronic Hardware, Seymour, Conn.
