AOI System Introduces Synthetic Component Library
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
A universal component library of synthetic images was introduced as a standard feature on ViTechnology`s automated optical inspection (AOI) systems. This inspection and analysis capability reportedly allows for 100 percent component inspection at maximum throughput speeds. It is accomplished by analyzing key geometric features of runtime component images, as opposed to comparing gray-scale values to reference images or "golden boards."
The library contains the most commonly mounted components in a variety of sizes, types, lead counts and pitch. Components in the library vary in size from 0402 to a 44 x 44 mm quad flat pack (QFP), and have predefined inspection parameters that can be adjusted to meet customer specifications. Eventually, customers will have the ability to upload and download new components as needed via the Internet from the company`s Web page.
Custom synthetic components can be created using the company`s proprietary software. After basic component specifications are programmed, a treatment process is used to set the parameters for proper inspection, including the minimum and maximum scale, passing score, polarity, angle, and offset of X and Y. The process of creating an image, defining the treatment and testing the synthetic reportedly can be done in less than five minutes.
