Solectron Is in the Zhone
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
MILPITAS, Calif. - Zhone Technologies Inc. and Solectron Corp. announced the signing of a letter of intent for Solectron to become Zhone`s virtual supply-chain partner. The proposed transaction is designed to allow Zhone to focus resources on the design and development of new products by having Solectron provide product life cycle and supply chain management.
The partnership will commence with the sale of the manufacturing division of the former Premisys Communications Inc., now a wholly owned subsidiary of Zhone, to Solectron. This manufacturing division includes certain manufacturing equipment, inventory and approximately 40 associates. Under the terms of the agreement, Solectron will work closely with Zhone as it builds its technology base and product portfolio. The proposed transaction is expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter of 2000.
"The sale of the Premisys manufacturing unit to Solectron is in line with our strategy to focus our time and resources on developing industry-leading, next-generation networking technology and services," said Mory Ejabat, chairman and CEO of Zhone. "By absorbing the engineering assets of Premisys, we are now in a strong position to not only address but to ultimately meet the growing demands of the carrier market."
Saeed Zohouri, Ph.D., senior VP and COO of Solectron, added, "This relationship with Zhone further extends Solectron`s position as a ... long-term partner for managing the total supply base for our customers for their current and prospective requirements."
