The Connecticut chapter of the Surface Mount Technology Association is holding a free Expo and Tech Forum at the Waterbury Marriott in Waterbury on Tuesday, October 20 from 10am-3pm. Students as well as professionals from all technological fields are encouraged to attend.

This technology expo is aimed at informing attendees and sharing the great technological advances made by today’s leading technicians. The SMTA Expo offers over 100 tech exhibitors and seven different technical sessions, such as “Past, Present and Future of 3D Printing”, “LED Lighting Solutions,” and more!

Not only is this a free event, but there is also a complimentary lunch and multiple raffles for those in attendance! One lucky guest will even walk away with a brand new Google Nexus 7, raffled off by sponsor and exhibitor, Conecsus LLC.

“As a Chapter, our goal is to connect professionals from all over the state and neighboring states,” says Mark Siems, the Treasurer of the SMTA CT Chapter and also the primary organizer of this year’s Expo and Tech Forum in CT. “This Expo is a great thing to attend; not only will you see all the advances that have been made in the technological field over the past year, but you’ll be able to network with professionals from across the country. Last year’s Expo was a huge success and I know that this year’s will be even better!".

Although this event is free, attendees are encouraged to register on the SMTA’s website:  , because those who pre-register will be entered into a raffle. For a complete schedule of the tech sessions and a full list of exhibitors, visit the SMTA Connecticut Chapter website.

The Connecticut Chapter of The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) is a piece of a larger group of an international network of professionals who build skills, share practical experience and develop solutions in electronic assembly technologies, including microsystems, emerging technologies, and related business operations.

Over 90 technical presentations are available, but this report covers just some of the sessions I attended.

Real Stories of Applied Advanced Analytics in the Electronics Manufacturing Smart Factory

08/26/2020 | Derek Ong, BscEE, Keysight Technologies
The smart factory is starting to become a reality, as part of the overarching Industry 4.0 paradigm. With the technology enablers, such as industrial IoT (IIoT) and cloud computing, electronics manufacturing operational technology (OT) are on a converging course with traditional information technology (IT). Beyond the challenges of data acquisition and transformation, the true “proof in the pudding” is in the quick ROI from advanced analytics. We will share examples of successful, profitable implementation of applied machine learning (ML) in the electronics manufacturing line, where measurement science meets data science.
