Digi ConnectCore 6UL Creates a Big Buzz at electronica
December 12, 2016 | Judy Warner, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 7 minutes
Warner: To me it seems like that would be an incredibly alluring market for you because of the flexibility in the whole device itself.
Volckaerts: Yes, we are currently talking to an English company and they are building a solution for Google.
Warner: Wonderful. So all of a sudden you have Google on your customer list. This is not a bad thing. (laughs)
Volckaerts: Exactly, this is very good.
Warner: So you have seen a lot of people this week, you have been very busy, and there’s a lot of excitement around your product. What is your next step? Will you be busy following up with the people you have met here? Do you have future shows coming up?
Volckaerts: Yes, obviously, we will follow up on all the leads that we have developed here because some were really high-value leads and that is very important. We will also be present at Embedded World, which is the next show in February which we traditionally do every year as well. We will continue to follow customers for the ConnectCore 6UL solutions and maybe by then we might be announcing the next generation of the ConnectCore 6.
Warner: Oh, very exciting. Do you do all your manufacturing in Belgium?
Volckaerts: Actually we are an American company and we do our manufacturing for the embedded modules in-house in the U.S.
Warner: Okay, whereabouts in the U.S.?
Volckaerts: In Minneapolis. For the real high-volume solutions, because the embedded portion here is just one portion, one product line, we also have the RF product line, which does serial to ZigBee, serial to 868 MHz modules, and that is being built in Thailand. So we use a subcontractor for the really high volume and engineering for these modules is in Europe.
Warner: Is Belgium where your engineering facility is based, or are your technology centers spread around?
Volckaerts: They are spread all over. We have people in France and we have people in Spain, that is where the software guys are that make the BSP and the Linux drivers to make sure that customers can use this module. Maybe just one other piece of information that I want to share with you is that this module, without Wi-Fi, is $39 dollars for a 1000 pieces and with Wi-Fi it’s $52 dollars for a 1000 pieces.
Warner: The price point is very attractive, it’s no wonder you are so busy.
Volckaerts: We also have two evaluation kits to help developers get up to speed quickly. Digi ConnectCore 6UL Starter Kit and the Digi ConnectCore 6UL Development Kit available on our website. Both be used as reference designs and help OEMs get to market faster.
Warner: Well Guy, again, thank you so much for you time and please keep us posted about Digi’s progress, and good luck with the last few hours of the show.
Volckaerts: Thank you very much.
