KIC to Demonstrate the ProBot at the SMTA Rocky Mountain Expo
November 30, 2015 | KICEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
KIC today announced that it will showcase the affordable and easy-to-use ProBot automatic profiling system at the SMTA Rocky Mountain (Denver) Expo & Tech Forum, scheduled to take place Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016 at the Mile High Stadium in Denver, CO. The ProBot automatically measures the profile for each PCB and verifies whether each PCB is processed to specification in the reflow oven.
ProBot, an automatic profiling system, reduces the need for time consuming periodic profiling. ProBot will immediately identify if the oven is ready for in-spec production, receive warnings/alarms if the process drifts and automatically send product-related yield data to third party management/MES systems.
“Over the last decade, reflow oven manufacturers have done a great job of making their ovens more stable, reliable and less expensive”, Bjorn Dahle, KIC President states. “Looking forward, the majority of additional customer value will be created in the utilization of the ovens, and that is the area where KIC has and continues to develop new technologies. One example that challenges the U.S. market is the trend toward more product variety, leading to shorter production runs and more frequent production line changeover. KIC continues to develop technologies to introduce more intelligence into the reflow ovens, hence our new logo ‘Making Ovens Smarter’. These new capabilities lead to reduced production cost, higher quality and new capabilities such as process traceability that the electronic assembly market is starting to demand.”
ProBot saves time and money by automating tasks such as periodic oven checks, PCB thermal profile data collection, potential thermal-related defects and yield data reports. Factories looking for traceability in the thermal process may add modules for barcoding, lot information and real-time yield charts. Additionally, the ProBot is designed to fit virtually any reflow oven on the market. The product is highly modular, allowing each user to specify the desired features. There is no longer a need to pay for unnecessary or unwanted capabilities.
