Real Time with… SMTAI: Alpha's Strategies to Ensure Reliability of Assemblies

Reading time ( words)

At the recent SMTA International exhibition in Rosemont, Illinois, I-Connect007’s Judy Warner and Robert Wallace, regional marketing manager and channel partner manager for the Americas for Alpha Assembly Solutions, discussed how Alpha helps ensure reliability of their customers’ assemblies by providing soldering material set combinations that had been fully tested together for the J-STD-004B.

Wallace also discussed Alpha’s strategy of working together with their customers, to educate them on the best way to use their products and ensuring that those products are optimized for the customers’ process.

Tips & Tricks: Water Contamination and Flux Expiry

04/17/2019 | Jason Fullerton, MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions
Solder joints that form properly are not expected to exhibit reduced reliability. However, a higher number of defects created tends to lead to a higher chance that defective connections escape detection through inspection and functional testing, and that’s not a risk to be taken lightly.

Tips & Tricks: Humidity Level for Electronics Assembly

04/10/2019 | Jason Fullerton, MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions
Low relative humidity (RH) can allow for higher static charges to build on objects. It can also affect solder pastes, especially OR-class pastes, and this can reduce print performance and stencil life. Read on to find out what level of RH you need for your assembly facility.

Tips & Tricks: Wave Solder Bridging

04/03/2019 | Jason Fullerton, MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions
Wave solder bridging is the most difficult defect to troubleshoot because it has a number of potential causes. The key is to understand the role of flux during wave contact—thus reducing the surface tension of the solder to reduce the tendency to bridge between pins as the board leaves the wave.
