ACE Production Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of selective soldering systems, is pleased to announce that Calian’s system engineering division, SED Systems has purchased a KISS-102 selective soldering machine from ACE.

The KISS-102 selective soldering system has been installed at the SED Systems facility located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is the second selective soldering machine SED Systems has ordered from ACE Production Technologies.

“The KISS-102 is a fully-configured selective soldering platform equipped with 'super quick' processing speeds, heated nitrogen inerting system and automated wave height detection system,” said Alan Cable, president of ACE Production Technologies.  “The KISS-102 comes standard with the ACE automated fiducial location and correction system providing single click fiducial teach capability, seamless fiducial recognition and true automated alignment and skew correction of the printed circuit board.”

Cable added, “Other innovative features include the new SWAK-OS machine operating software which is a revolutionary graphics-based programming and editing machine control system that features fast program loading and program recall with minimal operator intervention.  A major benefit of the SWAK-OS is the integrated board scanning function that automatically captures and saves an image of a printed circuit board to the selective soldering program.”

SED Systems is a turnkey supplier of communication satellite and telecommunication network systems for the aerospace and defense, test and measurement, and broadcast industries.  Their product range includes satellite and cable modulators, spectrum analyzers, RF systems and in-orbit test systems.  SED Systems excels at product development, engineering, manufacturing, embedded design, satellite operations, system commissioning and service rollout of earth stations and site hosting.

Increased digitalization and greater connectivity have been driving miniaturization and more complex and integrated designs in electronics. As the real estate on PCBs shrinks, so does the size of packages. However, the drive for finding design solutions for increased performance has continued to expand. The solder joint is an essential part of assemblies for electronic devices as it provides electrical, thermal, and mechanical connections. Therefore, soldering materials have been evolving to enable such a technological revolution.

This Month in SMT007 Magazine: How Engineers Can Use SPI Tools for Verification

05/06/2020 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007
Koh Young’s Ray Welch and Brent Fischthal detail how engineers can work with SPI tools to verify how small they can go in component size with their solder paste application, and how the company’s SPI equipment is helping not only to verify but also to help drive the development collaboration between solder paste and stencil printer manufacturers, and inspection tools and software.
