ITL VA Supports University of Richmond's 'Spider Shadowing Day'
December 20, 2016 | ITLEstimated reading time: 1 minute
ITL Virginia recently participated in University of Richmond's "Spider Shadowing Day," an annual program for undergraduate students to feel for what type of industry or career path they would be interested in pursuing.
Alumni from local companies volunteer to take part in this program to give students insight into day-to-day activities and give them a sense of the company’s culture. Students apply to a variety of industry postings and shadow UR alumni at each of their interests.
As a recent graduate of the University of Richmond in 2014, ITL Virginia Sales Representative Ashley Magnuson offered to share her role at ITL with two students.
"I believe that there is no better way to get a feel for the industry than networking and experience. I graduated with a BS in biology but in all honesty was unsure of what career path I wanted to go down. I knew I loved science and healthcare but the academic setting I was in at school created this view that my only avenues were graduate school, medical school or the research industry," commented Ashley.
"After taking a position in the research industry, I soon discovered that there are many other applications for my scientific background and found my passion with ITL VA in laboratory device sales and medical device manufacturing. As an alumnus I like to get involved with programs such as this because I want to tell students about my experiences and offer guidance in navigating their job search."
Apart from having an exciting, information-filled day, the students were able to get an overview of the ITL Group’s medical device design and manufacturing capabilities, the Vitl laboratory product range and see what a work day for Ashley is made up of. They even had time to Skype the marketing team in the UK to get a glimpse of what goes on across the pond.
