Molex announced that Joe Nelligan officially begins his tenure as CEO today, following the retirement of current CEO Martin P. Slark. Nelligan, who was serving as the company’s chief operating officer and president, brings over 30 years of Molex experience with him to the position. As CEO, Nelligan will be responsible for overseeing the company’s growth as it continues to expand globally in both new and existing markets.
“I am humbled, honored and excited to take on this new role and lead the team that will continue to drive profitable growth for Molex,” Nelligan said. “Molex has provided me with the opportunity to work in several areas of the business during my more than 30 years here. I look forward to using that knowledge and experience to work with our more than 45,000 employees globally to develop innovative electronic solutions that will help improve the lives of people everywhere.”
In his role as chief operating officer and president, Nelligan was responsible for leading the company’s global sales and marketing division and the four global product divisions that serve the data communications, consumer electronics, medical, industrial, automotive, and commercial vehicle markets. He also oversaw the company’s manufacturing and supply chain operations, which supported more than 50 manufacturing facilities in 23 countries.
Nelligan began his career at Molex as an intern, spending two summers working in Molex’s product engineering department before joining Molex full-time in 1986. He held several roles in Engineering, Product Management and Sales before being named Director of New Product Development for the Global Commercial Products Division in 2002. In 2005, he became Vice President of Sales & Marketing for the Americas region, and then vice president of the Datacom Global Industry Group in the Global sales and marketing division in 2007. In 2009, he was named Vice President of Product Development and Commercialization for the Global Commercial Products Division. He was named Chief Operating Officer for Molex in 2016 and assumed an additional role as president in 2017.
“Joe is a strong and respected leader who knows the global electronics industry inside and out,” said Jim Hannan, executive vice president and CEO of Enterprises at Koch Industries, Inc. “We are fortunate to have someone with his deep experience and knowledge of the industry to take on the CEO role at Molex at the time the company is growing rapidly and entering new markets.”
Nelligan graduated from Notre Dame in 1986 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to earn his MBA in 1989 from the University of Chicago.
