Altech UEC Chooses Universal Genesis Pick-and-Place
February 2, 2010 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
BINGHAMTON, NY — Altech UEC, a developer of digital technology for the international Pay-TV industry, selected Universal Instruments’ Genesis platform to manufacture its next-generation digital terrestrial television (DTT) set top box (STB) products. Initial production results have shown an improvement from 55,000 to 99,000 components per hour (CPH) placement.
Altech UEC specializes in the provision of integrated solutions comprising specialized hardware supported by innovative software solutions and global logistical support services. The company is utilizing the quad-beam Genesis GC-120Q; and dual-beam GC-60D and GI-14D platforms to populate top- and bottom-side digital set top box assemblies.
Because their process requirements are so diverse, flexibility was a primary consideration in choosing their assembly equipment solution. “We go from new product introduction (NPI) to high-volume production and even large board applications,” states Jannie Viljoen, Altech UEC director of operations. The systems investment generated a throughput improvement of 80%. Genesis offers VRM linear motors and Lightning Head technology, and fewer moving parts. Dimensions line software adds traceability, feeder low warnings, off-line set ups, feeder and component reel management, and performance monitoring.
Universal Instruments designs and manufactures advanced automation and assembly equipment solutions for the electronics manufacturing industry. Universal provides complete assembly lines to EMS providers, ODMs and electronics assemblers around the world. www.uic.com
