Orpro Vision Acquiring Orbotech's Assembly AOI Business
March 2, 2009 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
HAMELN, Germany Orbotech Ltd has signed an agreement to sell its European and American assembly business (automated optical inspection AOI systems) to the Italian company Orpro Services s.r.l that belongs to Fin.Pro S.p.A., beginning this April. Orpro Services will operate the business as an independent company under the name Orpro Vision with headquarters in Hameln.
The American and European market will still be served through a network of agents and distributors. The multi-year experience of Fin.Pro. was a key factor in Orbotech's decision to choose it as a partner for this transaction. Fin.Pro. S.p.A. is a long-standing Orbotech Ltd. business partner, being the parent company of Prodelec S.p.A. (Italy), Prod Electronic s.a.r.l. (France), Neutec Electronic AG (Switzerland), and Prodelec North Africa (Tunisia).
Orpro Vision will take over the European and American R&D, technical support, sales, manufacturing, and process control solutions. The transaction is subject to customary conditions to closing, including any requisite regulatory approvals, and is expected to close within two months. The new company will support the current AOI generation (Symbion and Vantage) systems and provide support for legacy products.
Among future plans there will be the creation of the company offices in Hameln, Germany, to include R&D, demo, training, application, and support centers. A facility for the US market will also be created in Billerica, MA.
