New Product Focus: Components
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 4 minutes
FDK introduced high-performance DC/DC Senpai converters; Murata Electronics North America released its MPD6S022S DC/DC converter; Cynergy3 Components will globally distribute its high-voltage and RF reed relays and level/flow sensors through Digi-Key; IRC released a family of power resistors in standard TO packages; and BI Technologies developed a tight DCR surface mount power inductor.
FDK Corporation added three high-performance DC/DC converters to its Senpai Series of non-isolated point-of-load (POL) converters. These operate from a 6.0 to 14.0 V DC input bus, and are offered in industry-standard footprints. The 30-A FPLR12TR7530 converter delivering up to 165 W output power. The FPLR12TR7525 and FPLR12SR7525 converters deliver up to 25 A with top thermal performance. The FPLR12TR7525 and FPLR12TR7530 converters are available in a 50.8 × 13.5 × 8.0 mm industry-standard SiP package and the FPLR12SR7525 converter comes in a 33.0 × 13.4 × 8.3 mm SMD package. Programmable output voltage ranges from 0.75 to 5.5 V DC and feature remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, and output voltage adjust. The series suits intermediate bus architecture (IBA) and distributed power architecture (DPA) applications that require high efficiency, tight regulation, and high reliability in elevated temperature environments. Thermal performance results from electrical, thermal, and packaging design that is optimized for high-density circuit cards. All Senpai Series products are RoHS-compliant and manufactured in Japan. www.fdkamerica.com.
Murata Electronics North America released its MPD6S022S DC/DC converter, developed with advanced circuit design to avoid use of an external capacitor. The POL non-isolated converter measures 21 × 9 × 21 mm in a SIL package. It delivers 10.8 W power with up to 95% efficiency and no derating. Input voltage ranges from 3 to 5.5 V; output is 1.1 to 3.6 V. It suits use in digital consumer electronics such as televisions and DVD players. RoHS6-compliant, the converter offers a 0°70°C operating temperature range. www.murata.com.
Cynergy3 Components will globally distribute its high-voltage and RF reed relays and level/flow sensors through Digi-Key. Cynergy3 reed relays are used in electro/medical, test, HV power supplies, and HF radio systems. Applications for reed-based liquid level sensors include washing systems, high-speed printing, vending, air conditioning, and water treatment plants. Digi-Key will feature the components in its catalogs for direct sales. www.digikey.com and www.cynergy3.com.
TT electronics introduced an IRC family of power resistors in industry standard TO-126, TO-220, TO-227, and TO-247 transistor outline packages. The MHP Series components are designed to suit a variety of applications requiring high stability and low inductance. They feature power ratings from 10 to 600 W. They can replace traditional wirewound resistors that are either too large or present more inductance to the circuit than can be tolerated. Resistor construction includes a high-quality ceramic substrate, allowing for a high dielectric withstanding voltage and extremely low thermal resistance, minimizing temperature rise and maximizing long-term stability, according to the company. The MHP Series features a resistance range of 0.01 W to 51 KW, inductance value of less than 50 nH, and a voltage rating of 700 V, along with a dielectric withstanding voltage of 2,000 V. Absolute tolerances are to ±1% and ±5, with absolute TCRs to ±50 ppm/°C. The MHP Series power resistors are available with RoHS-compliant terminations.
IRC also introduced a cylindrical surface mount power resistor with enhanced precision specifications: the PPC Series. These components combine high surge capability (up to 1500 W for 1 millisec.) with enhanced operational precision from tight TCRs. The PPC Series precision power resistor suits power supply, industrial electronics and instrumentation applications. Available in 1206, 2010, 2512 and 3610 package sizes, the surface mount PPC Series resistor features maximum power ratings of 1/8, 1/2, 1, and 2 W, with working voltages of 200, 300, 350, and 500 V, respectively. www.irctt.com.
Tyco Electronics added two PolyZen polymer-enhanced, precision Zener diode micro-assemblies. The devices feature a higher hold current (2.3 A) and are designed to help protect circuits in GPS, smartphones, game consoles, portable media players (PMPs), and other video-based peripherals that can be charged in the car. The PolyZen micro-assembly incorporates a stable Zener diode for precise voltage clamping and a resistively non-linear, polymer positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) layer that responds to either diode heating or overcurrent events by transitioning from a low to high resistance state. It withstands high-power fault conditions without special heat sinking structures beyond normal PCB traces. By clamping and smoothing inductive voltage spikes, PolyZen devices help shield downstream electronics from overvoltage and reverse bias. Additionally, their high power absorption capability protects against faults that occur when using an incorrect or misconnected power supply. PolyZen devices are compatible with industry-standard installation procedures, and are available in tape and reel. www.circuitprotection.com.
TT electronics BI Technologies developed a tight DCR surface mount power inductor called HM69T Series. The inductors measure 7.4 × 7.2 × 5.0 mm, targeting designs with limited PCB space. DCR tolerance is ۭ%. It is said to boast cost-efficient packaging for high-volume power supply applications, such as voltage regulators and power circuits for central processing units. The HM69T surface mount power inductors feature inductance values of 90, 100, and 150 nH, with rated DC current of 57, 52, and 27 A, respectively. Operating temperature ranges from -40° to +125°C, with a maximum temperature rise of +40°C. www.bitechnologies.com.
