Three Musketeers of SMT Assembly
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
A series of three pick-and-place systems dubbed "The Three Musketeers of SMT Assembly" is said to cover all applications in mid-range surface mount assembly area.
The machines are equipped with head-mounted cameras and advanced Cognex processing for non-contact, on-the-fly vision placement of 0201s to 16- x 14-mm surface mount devices (SMDs) and fine-pitch QFPs. A bottom-view camera is also available for larger components to 38 mm2.
Placement accuracy of ±0.002" (± 0.05 mm) is enabled by linear-encoded X/Y drive mechanisms. The systems have Advanced Time Pressure (ATP) Digital Dispensing for applying solder paste and adhesives at dot sizes down to 6-mil diameter. Driven by a Windows-based OS and MC-300 Series control software, the systems also feature off-line programming, remote service capability, and CAD download.
The MC-384 (the Athos) has a single-head and a placement area of 14.5" x 13.4" and a 128 smart-tape-feeder capacity. Throughput is 4,000 CPH. The MC-387 (the Aramis) conveyorized, dual-head system has a 39.4" x 12" work area and can be equipped with 224 smart-tape feeders. Throughput is 5,500 CPH.
