Wire-to-Board IDC Connectors
September 4, 2007 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The AVX Series 9175 and 9176 single-row surface mount IDC connectors from AVX Corp., let users connect discrete devices to a board using a simple hand tool.
Available in two- and three-way, as well as end-to-end stackable configurations, the connectors accommodate wire sizes from 18 to 28 AWG, current ratings are 1 A for the 9175 and 10 A for the 9176. Using a hand tool, 18-28 AWG wire solid or stranded wires are inserted into the contact slots. IDC contact cuts in the insulation, enabling the conductors of the wire to form a homogenous joint with the contact and the conductor.
The shape of the connector body forms a restraint to the wire, when fully fitted in the contact. The connectors are available in tape-and-reel packages, and suit applications such as LEDs, microphones, speakers, PCB-to-PCB assembly, and any device requiring discrete wiring to a board.
