Conveyor Cooling SystemThe Gradient Cooler conveyor system cools hot assemblies being transported along the line. The system houses a tangential blower that mounts to conveyors. The unit provides 130-ft.3/min. (cfm) of ambient airflow parallel to the belt travel for stress-relieved cooling. Hot items moving toward the unit contact a stream of air that cools them to room temperature gradually. By funneling ambient air in the direction opposite the products, the system produces a steady convective cooling curve in an enclosed hood assembly, reducing the possibility of distortion and warping due to uneven cooling. Suitable for wave solder, pad printing, UV curing, and other manufacturing processes, the coolers fit belt widths of 12-24". SmartMove Conveyors, Fall River, Mass., www.4smartmove.com.
Green PCB Rack
The color-coded RA-20SDG handling rack identifies lead-free PCB assemblies. The ESD-safe green rack uses an RA-20 mold to hold up to 20 assemblies in 0.125 × 0.325" slots with 0.750" pitch. The material is said to be static dissipative with a static-decay rate of less than 2.0 seconds. Ultra-clean, it exhibits low ionic contamination and off-gassing. The rack integrates two carrying handles and stacks for storage. Fancort Industries, Inc., West Caldwell, N.J., www.fancort.com.
Ionizers
The SUNX static ionizers, in ultra-compact ER-V and ultra-thin ER-VW series, eliminate electrostatic charge on ICs with a high-frequency AC method for a reported more even ion balance and reduction in static charge independent of air pressure and set-up distance. Charge-removal takes one second or less. Nozzles on the ionizers can be adjusted within a range of about 190°. Up to five units may be connected and a built-in 24-V DC power supply avoids need for additional power supplies or transformers. A variety of nozzles and tubes allow for flexibility when installing in line. Panasonic Electric Works Corporation of America, New Providence, N.J., www.pewa.panasonic.com.
Prototyping Laser Systems
The LPKF ProtoLaser 200 laser system, for producing prototype RFID antennae and small-batch productions, is designed to replace chemical and mechanical methods by structuring circuits on substrates such as aluminum, copper-coated PET films, and others. The system features minimum cut channel widths of 25 µm and accurate geometries. A LPKF MicroLine UV 3000 laser cutting system addresses critical applications in prototyping and pre-series production. The laser cutting system uses a high-speed linear drive, which increases positioning accuracy, speed, and acceleration over previous generations. It performs precision cutting, rotating, drilling, and ceramic substrate micromachining. LPKF Laser & Electronics AG, Garbsen, Germany, www.lpkf.de.
COMPONENTS
POL ConvertersTwo new lines of non-isolated, surface mount, point of load (POL) converters within the NiQor family feature ultra-wide I/O configurations to address intermediate bus architecture (IBA) applications. The NQ16W50SMA16, with an input voltage range of 6-16 V, can be used in conjunction with 4:1, 5:1, and 6:1 bus converter strategies. Its output voltage range of 0.75-5.5 V is programmable by a single external resistor. The NQ04W33SMA16 operates over an input voltage range of 2.4-6 V with an output voltage trim range of 0.75-3.6 V. Efficiencies up to 94% minimize de-rating requirements across the output voltage. Both devices are RoHS-compliant. SynQor, Boxborough, Mass., www.synqor.com.
HARDWARE/ACCESSORIES
Circuit Tray ClipAn anti-static, integrated circuit tray clip is said to eliminate one-at-a-time manual marking on JEDEC trays. Available in several colors, the clips can identify trays individually or in stacks. Operators also can use the clips in rebaking processes for moisture-sensitive devices (MSDs); the product withstands temperatures up to 300°F. Heat Sinks
Introduced for use with Freescale Semiconductor’s MPC8349E PowerQUICC II Pro processors, the ATS-552 heat sink maintains junction temperatures below the maximum specified value. The component is designed to maximize heat dissipation in low-air-flow conditions, with thermal resistance of 2.7°C/W at its base. Made from black anodized aluminum, it features 14 integral linear fins and measures 72 × 50 × 14 mm, making it suitable for space-constrained designs. Provided pre-assembled with an ATS maxiGRIP mounting system, the component applies steady, even pressure when attached. The ATS-522 is also available without mounting systems. INSPECTION EQUIPMENT
Defect-Prevention SoftwareA defect-prevention software package offers manufacturers statistical process control (SPC) and charting package capabilities, the Agilent Process Control Software assists operators, technicians, and engineers using Medalist SJ50 AOI and Medalist SP50 solder paste inspection systems. Real-time production monitoring tools record component and paste measurements taken by the AOI systems and generate relevant data. Highlights include user-defined charting and alarming, historical and live-data analysis, production summary reports, and worst-feature analysis. Historical and live images are embedded into the charts. Agilent Technologies, Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., www.agilent.com.
SOFTWARE
Data-management SolutionThe CAPS family of products will include the Goodbye Chain Group’s MDW/1752 for a full-disclosure data solution that reportedly enhances enterprise-obsolescence management, RoHS compliance, and supply-chain management. The additional MDW/1752 software incorporates compliance management and reporting, such as compliance analytics. CAPS supplies parametric information on current and historical components for research-for-design and component-selection processes. The database contains current and historical datasheets, end-of-life (EOL) notices, product-change notices, and RoHS-compliance declarations.
