EDA Revenues Up

SAN JOSE, Calif. Electronic design automation (EDA) industry revenues reached $1,309 million, up about 16% from $1,122 a year ago, shows the EDA Consortium's market statistics service (MSS) report. Professionals in the EDA companies tracked by MSS rose 11% to 25,018 year-to-year. The statistics cover Q'03 2006 in comparison to Q'03 2005.
The industry's largest product segment (40%), computer-aided engineering, generated $533 million in Q'03 2006, representing a 13% gain over the previous year. PCB and multi-chip module (MCM) revenue totaled $101 million, a 24% rise over last year, and services revenue rose 4% to $75 million. IC physical design and verification, 27% of total EDA-industry revenue, rose 19% to $354 million. Expanded segment semiconductor intellectual property (IP), which now encompasses 19% of total revenue, increased 24% hitting $246 million.
North America purchased $634 million in EDA products and services in the quarter, climbing 19% over last year. Revenues from Western Europe increased 14% to $249 million. Japan and rest of world (ROW) segments purchased more in Q'03 2006 than the previous year, 8% and 27%, respectively.
The MSS gives key indications of the EDA industry climate, including shifts in response to global competition and consumer demand, said Aart de Geus, chairman of the consortium and chairman and CEO at Synopsys. The MSS report is generated from public and private companies and segmented by revenue type, application, operating system, and region.
