Celestica's Dan Shea Keynotes Implementing Lead-free: A Hands-on Workshop
December 31, 1969 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
NASHUA, N.H. Sharing his extensive knowledge of the electronics industry's shift toward environmental responsibility, and the challenges associated with emerging legislative initiatives, Dan Shea, chief technology officer (CTO), Celestica, will present the keynote address "Cradle to Rebirth The Electronics Industry Goes Green," on October 17, 2006, at Implementing Lead-free: A Hands-on Workshop, at the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Center for Manufacturing and Assembly (CEMA) in Rochester, N.Y. Presented by SMT Magazine and RIT CEMA, this workshop will give attendees the hands-on knowledge they need to meet the growing lead-free requirements of the electronics manufacturing industry.
The European Union's (EU) RoHS Directive served as a wake-up call for the global electronics industry marking a massive shift toward the "greening" of electronic products. Although the July 1, 2006 deadline has passed, electronics companies are still working to overcome the technical and sourcing challenges of this law, while some continue to challenge the legislation itself. At the same time, the industry as a whole is looking ahead anticipating the inevitable elimination of product exemptions and the emergence of new laws that will affect the entire product life cycle. In "Cradle to Rebirth The Electronics Industry Goes Green," Shea will touch on challenges that manufacturers still face, who is most at risk, and what companies should be doing to prepare.
As Celestica's CTO since March 1998, Dan Shea is responsible for all aspects of technology and engineering at the company, including overseeing Celestica's compliance with emerging environmental legislation such as RoHS and WEEE, and Celestica's Green Services product-conversion offering. Shea is also actively involved in professional and industry associations, including the Professional Engineers of Ontario, and sits on the Board of Directors of the International Electronics Manufacturing Institute (iNEMI) and the Advanced Design and Manufacturing Institute.
