SMTAI Program Released

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn SMTA International, in collaboration with the Assembly Tech Expo (ATExpo), will host their annual conference at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. September 24 — 28, with exhibits running on the last three days. More than 100 technical papers will be presented alongside 26 tutorials and special symposiums. Topics include contract manufacturing, remaining competitive, lead-free soldering, and more.
Technical sessions on September 26 and 27 will be organized into tracks manufacturing and assembly, advanced packaging, substrates, RoHS, and process control. Educational courses on the 23rd, 24th, and 28th are offered as full- or half-day tutorials on similar topics. Thirteen new tutorials, as well as others run in previous years, will include advanced packaging, substrates, test/inspection/quality, and process-control guidelines. Ten tutorials will focus on environmental issues such as lead-free compliance.
On Monday, September 24th, the Emerging Technologies Summit will feature packaging space, wireless technology, and RFID sessions and will conclude with a panel on emerging technologies. Proceeds from Board Talk, a popular discussion of myths and truths in the industry, will go to The Charles Hutchins Educational Grant.
The Contract Manufacturing Symposium on Wednesday, September 27th, will feature two paper sessions on EMS cost and value, and EMS program management. A Lead-free Symposium on Thursday the 28th will include sessions with the joint council on aging aircraft (JCAA) and joint group on pollution prevention (JGPP) regarding their lead-free solder project, lead-free manufacturing experiences and industry standards, and other RoHS topics including fatigue and accelerated life testing.
A full-day workshop on moving beyond RoHS and WEEE to prepare for the Energy-using Products (EuP) Directive & Design for the Environment is co-sponsored by SMTA and Technology Forecasters, Inc. (TFI), along with The Goodbye Chain Group. Harvey Stone of the Goodbye Chain Group will discuss methodologies, strategies, and tools for environmentally conscious design with TFI's Pam Gordon. The Annual Meeting and Luncheon on the 27th will feature a keynote address by Jan Vardaman, president and founder, TechSearch International, Inc.
SMTAI is introducing a new symposium titled Staying Competitive in the Global Market, and plans to address concerns related to North American issues with cost, productivity, automation, finances, and quality.
