Lead-free Solder Is No-Clean and Water Washable
June 5, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
BRANFORD, Conn. The LF-4300 from AMTECH Inc. is a RoHS-compliant, lead-free solder paste featuring multi-process capabilities for water-washable and no-clean applications. The paste can be used with lead-free, tin/lead, and high-temperature alloys up to 300°C, and can be removed during cleaning using standard aqueous cleaning systems without saponification.
Manufacturing using a proprietary formula, LF-4300 is comprised of synthetic materials said to deliver good printing characteristics, high lot-to-lot consistency, and long stencil life. The VOC- and halide-free paste is classified as REL0. When used as a no-clean with tin/lead or lead-free alloys, flux residue remains clear, and is said to meet SIR requirements per ICP-TM-650.2.6.3.3.
Reported benefits of the solder paste include no mid-chip beading, low voiding, 12-hour stencil life, and 24-hour abandonment time, allowing shift-change downtime without a loss of production yields. The paste is also pin-probable for in-circuit test (ICT) inspection, compatible with automated optical inspection (AOI) systems, and also works in a vapor phase process.
