Solectron Beta Site Earns IPC Certification
March 29, 2006 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
MILPITAS, Calif. — After months as a beta test site for IPC's RoHS Lead-free Electronics Assembly Process Capability program, Charlotte, N.C.-based Solectron Corp. has earned certification, reportedly becoming the first Tier 1 EMS company to receive such certification. Leo Lambert, vice president and technical director for 600-610 MIT of Manchester, N.H.-based EPTAC Corp., took care of the audit.
"The internal process used by Solectron Charlotte to earn IPC certification is the same process used at all of our sites around the world," states Dave Purvis, CTO, Solectron.
Months ago, Solectron Charlotte and Raven Industries (Sioux Falls, S.D.) became beta test sites for the IPC RoHS Lead-free Process Capability Program (February 10th story). Solectron Charlotte demonstrated the process necessary to produce RoHS-compliant lead-free assemblies, thereby successfully completing the audit program. Raven Industries expects to complete its on-site audit on March 31, 2006. The entire program should be complete in April 2006, barring any critical flaws. Because Raven plans to draw from Solectron's success, no such flaws are anticipated, noted John Kania, IPC director of government relations/industry.
