TURI Hosts RoHS Compliance Planning and Strategies Workshop

LOWELL, Mass. — The Massachusetts Toxics Reduction Institute (TURI) will host "RoHS Compliance Planning and Strategies," on February 28, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., at the Wyndham Hotel in Westborough, Mass.
Designed to help companies understand how to prepare and plan for the July 1, 2006, RoHS deadline, the workshop will feature experienced presenters and panel members willing to share their compliance strategies, experiences, and lessons learned. Speakers will discuss topics such as evaluating supplier material declarations, issuing certificates of compliance, product design changes, component obsolescence, auditing suppliers, testing components and assemblies for restricted substances, documentation requirements, and lead-free alternative materials.
Presenters and topics include:
Richard Turner of Partminer, Inc. — "Best Practices for Collecting, Maintaining, and Analyzing Data for RoHS-compliant Electronic Components" Kenneth Stanvick of Design Chain Associates — "Strategic Business Response to RoHS Compliance" Gregory Morose, MA TURI — "Technical Challenges of RoHS Compliance"The workshop will also feature a discussion panel titled "Developing and Implementing RoHS Compliance Plans for Your Organization," made up of Steve Hanlon and Richard Anderson of Tyco Electronics (M/A-COM); David Pinsky, Raytheon; Ken Degan, Teradyne; Robert Farrell and Scott Mazur of Benchmark Electronics; and Todd MacFadden of Bose. Presenters and panel members will address the latest updates for business, logistical, and strategic challenges for achieving RoHS compliance; how organizations can implement a RoHS-compliance strategy effectively; what the important considerations are for managing supply-chain issues; and how companies in New England can work together to address the challenges of lead-free assembly.
