iNEMI to Hold First Meeting for 2007 Roadmap Following SMTAI
August 19, 2005 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
HERNDON, Va. — The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI) will begin preliminary work on its next industry roadmap in Chicago, where the Product Emulator Groups (PEGs) will hold their first industry-wide meeting on September 30th, immediately following the SMTA International (SMTAI) conference. Several iNEMI initiatives also will be presenting papers at the conference.
The iNEMI PEGs define the "product emulators" from seven sectors: automotive, aerospace/defense, consumer/portable, medical, netcom (network, datacom and telecom), office/large business systems and system-in-package. These provide an abstract representation of a product that will allow companies to share needs without sharing proprietary product information. The product needs defined by each PEG are used to forecast trends for the technology and infrastructure areas covered by the roadmap. Please click here for a listing of PEG chairs.
"The PEGs lay the foundation for our roadmap, and their work is critical to its success," says Jim Arnold, iNEMI's director of roadmapping and fellow of the technical staff for Motorola. "We are holding this initial PEG meeting earlier than usual this cycle so that we can take advantage of the SMTAI venue to enlist broad industry involvement in this important part of the process. iNEMI membership is not required to participate in the roadmap initiative, and we encourage people working in the electronics industry to get involved."
Arnold also points out that the next edition of the iNEMI roadmap will be the 2007 iNEMI Roadmap, as opposed to 2006. "Although the document will be developed throughout 2006, it will not be 'published' or available to industry until 2007," he explains. "We felt the name change would more accurately reflect the publication schedule."
Anyone planning to attend the PEG meeting should download a registration form from iNEMI's Website. Attendees also must register with the SMTAI conference. There is a free registration option that will allow access to the iNEMI meeting room, as well as access to the show floor. For more details, please visit the SMTAI Website.
