N.H.-based Company Resells Electronics Assembly/Test Equipment

Nashua, N.H.—In the pre-owned electronics manufacturing equipment market, most vendors sell assembly/test systems "as is," with little or no after-sales support. Nashua, N.H.-based Lewis and Clark Inc. (LCI) offers the same services expected when purchasing the equipment new from an OEM vendor, including:
* Asset management of excess systems* Plant liquidations* Reconditioning* Installation* Field service and training* Assistance in leasing and finance
"As long as installation help is available, as well as support for maintenance and repair," says company president and CEO Frank Clark, "remarketed equipment will often satisfy the requirements of electronic manufacturing companies, from small mom-and-pop operations to large, multinational EMS providers."
Used capital equipment offers a cost-effective alternative to the high price of new systems, and it can help assemblers meet immediate production needs. Delivery of a new piece of equipment might take weeks, whereas used equipment can be put in service immediately.
Many of the company's customers include Solectron, Flextronics, Jabil Circuit, Hewlett Packard, Motorola, GE Capital, Raytheon, BAE, the U.S. Army, Siemens and Teradyne. These operations are supported by the firm, wherever the location. For instance, the company has three offices in the U.S., as well as a China operation. Moving forward, smaller offices worldwide in close proximity to customers will allow faster response times and local expertise.
A variety of equipment sourcing strategies depends on the circumstances. These might include outright procurement, equipment consignment, end-of-lease programs or asset managed partnerships. The company's representatives make large purchases or consignment agreements to ensure a constant source of supply, and offers warranty and service options to customers.
The company uses a Seibel software package for CRM. Customized to the electronics manufacturing and assembly industry, and coupled with the company's Website ( http://www.lewis-clark.com ), the new package allows LCI's sourcing and sales teams to track customers and equipment globally.
