ASSEMBLY TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
Cartridge BearingsB2000 and B2001 cartridge bearing models are said to feature tapered hex shafts that eliminate the need for through axles, providing quiet roller operation. Designed for high-speed, low-noise applications, the new models use precision ABEC-1 bearings insert-molded into a conductive polypropylene housing. A nylon adapter inserted through the bore houses a tapered hex axle. Once assembled, the finished bearing units are crimped into roller tubes, resulting in a finished universal roller assembly. FKI Logistex, Automation Div., Cincinnati, Ohio.
CLEANING MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT
Batch CleanerCyberclean Series 6000 Model 7883CD batch washer is said to wash and dry in one chamber. The all-stainless steel cleaner reportedly includes wash and dry temperatures to 93∞C; a built-in adjustable water softener, detergent and neutralizer dispensing system; and a HEPA filtration system with adjustable drying. Other features reportedly include a 106-gallon-per-minute circulation pump, which is thermally protected from overheating. Eight standard wash recipe times are available. EMC Global Technologies Inc., Doylestown, Pa.
LITERATURE
HandbookPrinciples of Soldering Handbook is designed for use by engineers working with soldering processes or soldered components. The book reportedly provides critical analysis, covering the fundamental characteristics of solders, fluxes and joining environments and the impact of these characteristics on the selection and success of soldering. An entire section is devoted to fluxless soldering, including strategies for devising successful processes. ASM International, The Materials Information Society, Materials Park, Ohio.
MATERIALS
Lead-free MaterialsThis company has introduced distinguishable packaging for its lead-free materials. Lead-free solder paste reportedly is now packaged in green jars and cartridges, with traditional leaded solder paste in white jars and transparent gray cartridges. The company also has introduced lead-free triangular solder bars. At the same time, the company already distinguishes its lead-based and lead-free alloy solder wire with gray and green cartons that contain the wire. Kester, Des Plaines, Ill.
SCREEN PRINTING
Stencil TechnologyAdditive stencil technology reportedly allows users to create deposits of several heights in a single pass. Additive stencil technology can be applied to either side of the stencil. Building up selected areas on the stencil surface reportedly allows the height of selected deposits to be increased by between 10 and 100 µm compared to the nominal height determined by the main stencil thickness. DEK International GmbH, Flemington, N.J.
SqueegeesPermalex squeegees are said to offer a smooth transition and improved printing with lead-free solder paste. The metal squeegees are infused with a polymer lubricant, which reportedly eliminates the sticking typically seen on other metal squeegees and replaces the lead that has acted as a lubricating element in the past. As the industry moves toward lead-free, this form of lubrication reportedly will become more important. Transition Automation Inc., Billerica, Mass.
SOLDERING
Solder Reflow SystemPyramax 150 Air solder reflow system is said to feature the company's forced impingement technology. Designed with 24" process capability and operating temperatures up to 350∞C, Pyramax is targeted for use in a range of applications, including lead-free operation. Pyramax's configurable architecture allows the system to be configured and enhanced to meet new requirements. Thermal performance is said to be achieved by precision control of critical thermal processing variables. BTU International Inc., North Billerica, Mass.
TEST & INSPECTION
Test ModuleIonograph 500M SMD IIc test module features new safety and maintenance features, and is said to be for use in ionic contamination testing and process control in both electronic and medical manufacturing. The new model reportedly enhances the performance monitoring of the deionization beds, and uses dynamic testing. Specialty Coating Systems, Division of Cookson Electronic Equipment Group, Indianapolis, Ind.
