Binghamton, N.Y. -- On January 28, 2003, Universal Instruments enhanced the functionality of its Web site by adding a shopping cart feature that enables users to easily order spare parts and services in a secure Web environment.
While Universal Instruments' customers have had the ability to order spare parts and check parts pricing and availability online for a few years, the shopping cart improves users' Web-based purchasing experience with Universal Instruments through the following features:
- The new online shopping cart calculates UPS freight charges of the items selected. This means if users select to ship UPS (other options are available), they will know up front what their total purchase charges are, including shipping.
- The shopping cart retains information for up to 30 days. So, users can shop for parts at one time and then return to the cart and place an order at any time within 30 days without having to re-key part number information.
- If available, users can link to additional information about the parts being placed in the shopping cart, for example, rebate information or replacement part numbers. Order numbers are provided to users immediately upon placing an order.
- Users can access the shopping cart from any page on Universal's Web site.
At present, the shopping cart is available only for spare parts purchases. In the near future Universal's customer training courses, customer support services and software upgrade questionnaires will be integrated into the shopping cart so customers can order these items online as well.
To use the shopping cart, users must be registered to MyUniversal, Universal Instruments' individualized, direct communication link with its customers. Additional customer information is required to ensure security.
